Be it known that I, J OHN NUSSER, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Mallanaur, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Supports for Embroidery- Hoops, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an adjustable support for embroidery hoops and has for its object to provide a support of such type, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, for the purpose of connecting the hoops to a stationary object and to further enable the hoops when connected to be adjusted to various angles with respect to the support.
Further ob ects of the invention are to provide a support for the purpose set forth which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, efficient and convenient in its use, readily set up with re spect to the hoop, and inexpensive.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views :F igure 1 is a sectional elevation of an embroidery hoop support in accordance with this invention showing the adaptation thereof in connection with the hoops. view. Fig. 3 is a sectional detail.
Referring to the drawings in detail 1 denotes a table top or other stationary object and to which the support, in accordance with this invention, is adapted to be detachably clamped.
The support comprises a U-shaped body portion 2 and the arms of the latter are indicated at 3, 4. The arm 3 projects at its free end in the head 5 of a length greater than the width of said arm 3 and the said head 5 is disposed centrally with respect to the upper end of said arm 8. One face of the head 5 is flat and its other face arcuate as indicated at 7. The arm 4 has its free end provided with a circular head 8 formed with Fig. 2 is a top plan a centrallyldisposed body opening 10 and said head 8 is arranged parallel to the head 5. Depending from the body portion 2 is an angle-shaped member 11, which has its free terminus of the horizontal leg thereof provided with a circular enlargement l2 disposed at right angles with respect to the heads 5, 8, and formed with a screw threaded opening 13. Extending from one end of the. body portion 2 is a projection 14, which terminates in a circular enlargement l5 arranged parallel with the enlargement 12.
Extending up through the circular enlargement 12 and engaging with the ends of the threaded opening 13 is a clamping screw 16, having its lower end provided with a. thumb piece 17, and its upper end with a disk 18, the latter being swivelly connected to the said upper end of thescrew 16.
The arm 11, enlargement 12, screw 16,
disk 18, projection 14 and enlargement 15 constitute a clamp for detachably connecting the body portion 2 of the support to the table top 1.
Adjustably engaging in the head 8 is a clamping screw 19, having one'end provided with a. thumb piece 20 and its other end with a curved clamping head 21 having its top, at each side, formed with a forwardly projecting flange 22. The head 21 is of a length greater than the diameter of the screw 19 and the head 21 is adapted to be positioned against the periphery of the outer hoop 23, of a pair of hoops, and oppose the head 5, the latter being positioned against the inner face of the inner hoop 24 of the pair L of hoops. When the screw 19 is adjusted, the heads 8 and 21 clamp the'hoops with the body portion 2 and when the hoops are clamped in a manner just stated the flanges 22 extend over the edges of the hoops 23 and 2& for the purpose of maintaining them in alinement.
The clamping head 21 is swivelly connected to the clamping screw 19'as at 24 and by such an arrangement hoops can be positioned at any desired angle with respect to the body portion 2.
The reference character 25 denotes a piece of fabric which is clamped in position by the hoops 22 and 23.
What I claim is 1. A device for the purpose set forth comprising a U-shaped body portion ha ing-the free end of each of its arms provided with a head, one of said heads having an arcuate face and the other of said heads formed,
with a threaded opening, a clamping screw extending through and engaging with the wall of said opening, a curved head-swivelly mounted upon one end of said screw and associating with said imperforate head for clamping a fabric supporting member with said body portion, said swiveled head per-- tending through and engaging with the wall of said opening, a curved head swivelly mounted upon one end of said screw and associating with said imperforate head for clamping a fabric supporting member with said body portion, said sliveled head permitting of the angular adjustment of said member with respect to said screw, a pair of flanges promoting forwardly from the top of said SWlYQl. head and capable of overlan )in said member a lateral. aro'ectio n.
