Description

.is found in assembling HARRY E. CAMPBELL,
i SASH-SUSPENS-ION 'DEVICE Application filed December 16,1915.
To all lwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY E. CAMPBELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, inthe county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Sash-Suspension'Devices', ofwhich the following'is a specifications.. i The invention relates tosash suspension devices. Y l
,lVhere suspension shafts cariving sprocket or chain` wheels faston 'each end, over which wheels the sash chains pass, are to be introduced into hollow klintels, wherein said shafts have their journal bearings', difficulty the shafts in the lintels aftenthe window-frame has been builtin place.l vThis is chiefly due to the neces,-v
restrictedv area of the opening in the sai-ily which each bottom of the lintelv through shaft; with its affixed wheels must be inview.` Fig. i isl a sei-ted. My present invention is designed to overcme this difficulty, and consists in the construction of the hollow lintel and the suspension shafts and wheels adapted there-y to, as more particularly hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings---Figu-re` l is a vertical longitudinal section of my improved sash suspension device onthe line. 1, l of Fig. '2; Fig. Q is a horizontal section k on theline 2, '2 of Fig. t. Fig.- 3 is a bottom cross 5 is a cross section on 4, 4'of Fig. 1. Fig.
Fw. G' shows one the line 5, 5 of Fig. 1.
i C of the chain wheels, and shaft support therein, the stirriip and the cover` of said p support in perspective and separated. n

.1 is-tlie hollow' box-shaped lintel of a window-frame. 'all B at each end-and a plate C forming part of the bottom Wall are foi-ined integrally. The top wall D and side walls E are-formed integrally of a. suitably bent metal plate which rests upon'the vend Walls. On the end walls B are lugs F which` receive the bolts (l, by which the lintel is i secured to the sill, not shown. T he'bottom plates C rest upon the jainbs l-l, which are hollow `to receive the `suspension counter` weights l. .'l`he opening in the bottoni ofl the lintel is closed by a metal plate J resting edges of the plates (l.

seated in said support. The shaft isunited a stirrup 10 which passes to said support by under said seat 8.4 `The threaded ends of the stirrup'passthrough openings in the cover 11, which fits upon the, shaft, and are secured by nuts.
lThere are `P of the `integrally formed with the two parallel shafts l 9, having supports and chain wheelsat their ends,-asL
described.v Over 4veach, wheel passes a chain 12, having one end secured to a sash partly showndin Fig. '-lk at 13, and the otherend tov a count'er-weight The lchains 12 pass through suitable openings in the bottom plates C.. The wheels 7 'are disposed in recesses in the blocks N. l, v p
By reason' of this construction the introduction 4of the suspension shafts and wheels into they hollow lintel,l after `the windowframe is built in place,'is greatly facilitated. To this endthe ycover platedv is removed, and the wheels having been i the bottom, opening, are seated in the bearings in blocks N. AThe shafts can then kbe placed in their seats 8, and ythe cover plates 11 are place.
Iclaim: 1. A sash suspension device, comprising a polygonal shaft, twov chain'wheels, bea-rings- -for said wheels, sash chains engagingsaid wheels, polygonalfseats for said shaft exand nieaisfor securing said shaft in said seats..v f "2. A sashd suspension device, comprising a iolvvonal shaft two chain wheels, bearings n i 2.-

.a stirrup, receiving said seat, and a cover fitting upon said shaft and engaging the legs of said'stirrup.
- 3. A sash suspension device, comprising .1 polygonal shaft, a hollow lintel having an opening in its chain .wheels having kjournals projecting passed through f said wheels,
