Description

PATENT OFFICE.
NELSON G. NORTHUP, OF BLOOMINGTON, MINNESOTA.
IMPROVEMENT IN ROOFS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 117,104, dated July 18, 1871.
To all whom t may concern.:
Be it known that I, NELSON G. NORTHUP, of Bloomington, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and Improved Roof 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this speciiication.
My invention consists in an improvement for making the joints of a roof water-tight, as hereinafter fully described and subsequently pointed out in the claim.
Figure l represents the top view of a roof, and Figs. 2 and 3 sectional views.
C are therooiboards. H are sheet-metal plates with which theymay be covered. G are long 4 sheetqnetal caps, bent over until they-assume the shape of the letter T and present a central and two side flanges. The shank enters the joint between the boards or plates and'is clamped therein, while the arms are made to overlap on each side and shed the water from the joint. A capjoint break like this will thus have ample opportunity to contract and expand, according to temperature, without the joint being injuriously affected thereby.
Having thus described my invention and al1 that is necessary to a full understanding thereof, what 1 esteem to be new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
The long metal caps G, constructed With a central and two side iian ges to adapt it to be inserted into the joint oi' the rooting-plates or boards and to overlap on both sides, as and for the purpose specified.
