To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, \VILLIAM R. WALKER, citizen of the United States, residing at Arlington, in the county of Tarrant and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scissors-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention pertains to new and useful improvements in scissors hangers.

The object of the invention is to provide a hanger especially adapted for sales people in stores and having a particular construction.

Another object of the invention is to provide a pair of hooks depending from a shank and connected by an arched guard strip, whereby a scissors holding or supporting element is formed.

A further object is to oil-set the guard at its center and likewise the shank at the intersection of the hooks, in such a manner as to form a downwardly flared enlargement transversely of the supporting element, and which readily permits the passage of the pivot screw or rivet of the scissors and facilitates the insertion of the same.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described that will be strong, durable, efficient, and simple and inexpensive to construct, also one in which the several parts will not be likely to get out of working order.

\Vith the above and other objects in view the invention has relation to certain novel features of construction and operation an example of which is described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a front elevation of hanger engaged over a belt and supporting a pair of scissors, Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the hanger, Fig. 3 is a central transverse vertical sectional view Fig. 4 is a front elevation of a modified form of hanger, and Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the same.

In the drawings the numeral 1 designates a body of plate metal of a resilient nature which is bent upon itself to form a shank 2 and :1 depending sprin lip 3. The body is widened at the top of the shank and merged into an overhanging roll 4 which is arched transversely of the body. The parts 6 and 7 form a scissors supporting element adapted to support a pair of scissors as indicated in Fig. 1.

To facilitate the. insertion of the scissors and permit the free passage of the pivot screw or like, the shank at the arch 5 is offset outwardly at 8 and the guard 7 is likewise ofiset at the point opposite indicated by the numeral 9. These offsets are flared downwardly and provide a transverse enlargement in the supporting element for the purpose specified. In using the hanger the salesman engages the lip 3 over his belt or waist-band of his trousers whereby the hanger owing to its resilient nature will remain. He inserts the point of his scissors in the supporting element and drops the scissors on the hooks G where they are retained by the guard, the offsets 8 and 9 acting to permit a free insertion and a guide. The scissors may be readily withdrawn and replaced.

In Figs. 4 and 5 a modified form of hanger is shown, and which is more especially adapted for sales women. This hanger has a plate metal body 10, an arch 11 at the lower end of a shank 12 which is merged into a widened head 13. Hooks 14 depend from the shank and are connected by a guard 15 like the corresponding parts in the first form. The uard l5 and arch 11 are also provided with offsets 16 and 17 like those 8 and 9. The body has a pin 18 hinged on its rear side adapted to engage a keeper 19 secured to the back of the shank. By this means the saleswoman may pin the hanger to her clothing. The scissors are supported in the same way as in Fi 1.

One of the essential features of the invention is the scissors supporting element and much depends upon the easy and expeditious insertion and withdrawal of the scissors. If the latter should catch or wedge trouble would be experienced and the hanger discarded as a failure. The oll'sets are quite advantageous and in the form shown in Fig. .1 the roll 4 is very important.

The invention is presented as including all such changes and modifications as properly come within the scope of the appended claims.

What I claim, is:

1. A scissors hanger comprising a spring metal-plate bodybent upon itself and provided with a depending attaching lip, there being a roll between the body proper and the lip, a shank below the roll, the body being arched at the bottomof the shank, oppositely directed hooks extending from the shank at the arch and connected by an integral guard strip, and ofi'sets in the guard Copies of this patent may be obtained for and the arch of the shank transversely opposed, the guard strip being spaced from the shank sufficiently to permit the insertion of a pair of scissors therebetween.

2. A scissors hanger comprising a plate metal body having means for attaching it to the clothing of the wearer and including a shank, and a scissors supporting element depending from the shank and arched longitudinally and provided with a central transverse enlargement.
