IMPROVEMENT IN WINDOW-CURTAIN ROLLERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 117,068, dated July 18, 1871.y
. vented anew and useful Improvement in Window- Curtain Rollers and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, whichwill enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in window-curtain rollers and the mode of attaching the curtains to them. My invention consists in improving the construction of rollers for windowcurtains, as hereinafter fully described and subsequently pointed out in the claim.
Figure l is a longitudinal section of the improved roller; also, a view of a part of the curtain. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the roller and curtain on the line x of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a section on the line y y of Fig. l.

The two edges a b of the roller, formed of tin, are lapped, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and fitted so as -to press snugly together for receiving the corner ofthe curtain c below the hem at one end, to be drawn along the roller toward the other end until properly connected or adjusted on the The hein is preferably entered between these edges at the end of the long piece of an extension roller, but it may be entered at a slit or notch near one end of a roller not made in two parts for varying the length, or the pulley or disk may be made detachable for the purpose. For securing the two parts of a hollow extension roller together, one of them-preferably the short one-is slotted on the side opposite to the opening between the edges for the curtain, as shown at 1L, and the other has a clamping-screw, d, passing through it into a curved clamping-plate, 7c, inside, between which and the part having the screw the slotted part is shoved so that the slot passes over the screw, which, being then screwed up, clamps them together tight. -The curtain is preferably wound on the roller, when attached in this way, as shown in the drawin g-that is, turned back from the opening between the two parts over the outer part of the tin roller-for causing it to bind on the said edge, to hold better than if wound the other way; and, besides, it has less tendency to spring the two parts away from each other so that the hem might escape. By this arrangement the curtain may be applied or removed in the most ready manner and much of the labor of tacking them on, and damage to the curtain by tearing them oii, saved.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by letters Patent- A' window-eurtain-roller, formed in two parts, having' their edges a b open and unfastened, combined with a clampingplate, K, and screw d, as and for the purpose speciiied.
