Be it known that 1, JOHN F. ROGERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atlantic City, in the county of Atlantic and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Checkers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvement'sin checkers or draughts for playing games on 'checke'r boards in the usual way and in which, after a piece has reached a certain position on the game board, it is called a king and acquires the power of being moved in any desired direction, the object of the invention being to provide means for securing one checker or game piece-on another when the latter is crowned and prevent the separation of the pieces by casual movement or ctherwise, and thus enable a king or crowned piece to.be always distinguished.
The intention consists in checkers or draughts having means to secure them to-" gether in superposed relation as hereinafter describedvand claimed.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective view of the checker constructed in accordance with myinvention. Fig. 2 is a secticnal'view of a pair of checkers, secured cne upon the other to provide a king, in accordance with my invention.
Each checker 1 may be in the form as shown or of any other suitable construction.
In accordance with my invention, 1' provide means for securing a p'a1r of checkers together,'with one upon the other, to indicate-a king piece. In the form of the inventicn as shown, each checker is provided in its upper side at the center with a substantial globular spring snap member 2 and is provided on its under side at its center with a correspondingly shaped snap socket member 3 to receive and secure the projecting globular member of another member and thus enable one checker to be securely and yet detachably fastened on another.
The globular snap member 2 is formed at a the upper end of a tubular element 4 which extends through the center of the checker, the socket member 3 being formed in said tubular element and said tubular element having a contracted throat 5 near its lower end. The tubular element is formed with an annular flange 6 which bears on the upper side of the checker and is also formed,
at its lower end, with an annular flange 7 which bears against the under side of the chec er so that the said tubular element is in effect, a tubular metallic clip which is seopening, said tubular element being provided with a projecting snap device at one end and being also provided with a socket to receive a corresponding snap device of another checker.
2. -A checker having a tubular element extending therethrough, said tubular element,
being provided with clip flanges which engage opposite sides of the checker and secure said element thereto, and being also provided with a projecting snap device at one end and with a socket to receive a correspending snap device of another checker.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
