To allwhom 'i1/may Concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY D. CORNELIUS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion ano'. State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Concrete-Curbing Form, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon. ...Q-Nw This invention relates to portable forms that are designed to be used for molding concrete or cement curbing or similar low monolithic formations, the invention having reference more particularly to adjustable forms of the above-mentioned character.
An object of the invention is to provide curbing forms of such construction as to permit of rapid and accurate adjustment, and which may be quickly set up on the ground where molding may be required and be readily removed after completion of the work.
Another object is to provide sectional curbing forms that shall be adapted for use in molding curbing foundations and also the upper portions of the curbing, without it being necessary to shift or readjust the forms in case it is necessary to mold the curbing when the excavation therefor must be made in soft or loose ground.
A further object is to provide improved means for supporting and adjusting form boards or plates on the required lines, so that the finished work shall be' on the required grade line and either straight or accurately curved as may be required.
TvVith the above-mentioned and other objects in view, the invention vconsists in forms having various novel features, including means for adjustably supporting the forms on the ground, the invention consisting further in the parts and combinations and arrangements of parts as hereinafter particularly described and further defined in the accompanying claims.
Referring to the drawings,-l4`igure 1 is a top plan of the improved forms constructed and arranged for molding a straight portion and a continuing curved corner portion. of a curbing; Fig. 2 isa perspective view of one of the trestles whereby the form boards or plates are adjustably suspended in or over trenches in which the curbing is to be molded; Fig. 3 is la transverse section apthe line `.AMA onFig, l with curbing in the forms; Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the forms; Fig. 5 is a fragmentary horizontal section approximately on the line B-B on Fig. 4; Fig. 6 is a vertical section approximately on the line C-C on Fig. 1 but with curbing in the process of being formed; Fig. 7 is a transverse section on the line D-D on Fig. 4; Fig. 8 is a fragmentary transverse section on the line E-E on Fig. l with complete curbing in the forms; Fig. 9 is a transverse section on the line F-F on Fig. l; Fig. 10.is a fragmentary perspective view showing connected sections of the mold form; and, Fig. ll is a perspective view of one of the' dividing plates preferably used to divide the curbing into sections when being molded.

yIn practically carrying out the objects of the invention the forms and supports therefor may be variously modified so as to conform to .the character of the ground where the concrete work is required, as for instance when curbing is desired at the edges of dwelling lots or lawns or along the paths or walks in private or public grounds. For the purpose of illustrating the manner of using the improved forms, reference is had to a street or road grade 1 at the edge of which is a trench 2 in which the curbing foundation is placed, and the grade 3 for the adjacent sidewalk, it being understood that the curbing is customarily placed in position before the street and sidewalk paving is laid in place.- y
A suitable number ofstraight side boards or plates 4 are provided and also curved side boards 5 adapted to be connected to either end of a straight side board section, for molding the outer face of the curbing. suitable number of straight side board sections 6 similar to the sections 4 are provided and used opposite to the sections 4, other curved side board sections 7 being provided andl adapted to be connected to a section G, for shaping theinner side of the curbing. The lower or bottom portion of each outer side board section has an outward extending base member 8, the top portion having a similar cap member 9 thereon. The inner side board sections are similarly provided with a base member 10 and cap member 11t One-end of each side board has an outward extending vertical end bar 12 on one end and a similar bar 13 on the opposite end thereof, each. bar having keyways 14 in which keys 15 are placed when the sections are set up end to end, the kevs securely holding the side boards in alinement. Each outer side board section isprovided with a plurality of relatively fixed regulating and bearing beams 16 and 17 that are supported on the street or roadway grade when lthe. side board sections are set vup in position, the beams being leveled so that the side board sections shall be perpendicular.
IOne end portion of the cap member of. each outer side board section is provided with a suspension bolt 18 and the opposite end portion with a similar lcolt 19, the inner side board section being similarly provided with adjusting suspension bolts 2O and 21,
' the bolts being provided with wing nuts 22 and 22. A suitable number of trestles comprising beams 23, 24 and 25 to which the suspension bolts are adjustably connected are `provided for vertical and lateral adjustment of the side boards, the trestles being alike in construction, each trestle beam being provided with two legs 26 and 27 provided with fcrow- foot'bases 28 and 29 respectively that rest on firm ground and support the beam above the trench. Each beam has two longitudinal slots 30 and 31 that normally receive the suspension bolts of two adjacent side board sections, the slots lpermitting lateral adjustment of the sections. and having also two similar slots 32 and 33 that receive in a similar manner the suspension bolts of adjacent companion side board sections.
For the purpose of connecting the -two oppositely arrangedside boards so that they shall -be accurately spaced apart, the cap members of the opposite sections are provided with apertures or sockets 34 and 35 respectively,l and a suitable number of couplers are provided, each comprising a tie rod 36 and' two clamp bars 37 vand 38, all formed integrally, the clamp bars being insorted inthe apertures 34 and 35V respectively and extending downward nearly to the base members of the side boards to prevent the lower portions of the side boards from spreading apart, the side boards being held apart the required distance by means of spacing plates or boards 39 placed between them, preferably under the tie rod 36.
A suitable number of dividing plates 40 are provided which in practice are placed between two opposite side boards and extend downward beyond them into the trench, each plate having projections 41 and 42 on the upper portion thereof that rest upon the tops of the side boards, the upper portion of each plate having a hand hole 43 therein for lifting the plate out of position. Y ln seme eases. when the trenches. made in firm ground, so that the sides of the trenches do not fall down, the foundation of the curbing may require no forms other than the sides of the trenches, but when the ground is liable to crumble into the trench foundation side forms 44, 44, 45 and 46 are provided. and are suitably suspended, each section preferably being provided near opposite end portions with hangers 47 and 48 connected to the side board section` by means of pivots 49 and 49 respectively, the hangers being suitably made hook-shaped and having lugs 50 and 51k thereon respectively that find support upon the lateral base members 8 or 10 whenA the hangersy are inserted through openings 52 and 53 provided in the base members for the purpose.
In practical use, thel forms having been accurately set up and adjusted according to requirements, placed in the trench and brought up to a sufficient height to hold the side boards apart, after which the plates 39 are removed, the forms being subsequently filled so as to complete the upper portion or curbing 55, which is suitably troweled and shaped so as to form a rounded outer corner 56. After the cement composition has sufliciently set the plates 40 are withdrawn and the couplersare removed from the' side boards 0r plates. The mold forms are removed when the curbing is sufficiently hard to be selfsupporting. t will be'understood that the forms when removed may be carried forward and connected with others in use as the work progresses.
Having thus kdescribed the invention, what is claimed as new isl. A cement-mold including'a side mold form provided with vertically and laterally adjustable suspension devices and a laterally-extending guide and plumbing beam rigidly secured to the mold.

6. A concrete curbing form including an outer side form having a plurality of laterally-extending guide and plumbing beams rigidly secured thereto and provided also with vertically adjustable suspension devices, an inner side form provided with vertically adjustable suspension devices, a plurality of trestles for supporting the forms and having each a plurality of apertures therein to receive the suspension devices, a plurality of couplers to be removably connected to the outer side form and the inner side form, and division plates to be removably inserted between the side forms.
7. A cement-mold including a plurality of side forms, a plurality of suspension bolts connected to the tops of the side forms near the ends thereof, and a plurality of trestles for supporting the bolts, each trestle comprising a beam having four slots therein to receive the bolts, one in each slot, and two legs secured to each beam, each leg having a crow-foot base.

A cement-mold including a plurality of oppositely arranged side forms, each form being provided on each end portion thereof with a suspension bolt, and a plurality of trestles extending transversely over the forms and having each a plurality of slots therein that extend transversely of the ve cents each, by addressing the forms, the slots receiving the bolts respectively and enabling the trestle to supportthe bolts for lateral and vertical adjustment of the forms.
9. In a cement curbing form, the combination of a plurality of side mold plates having each an outward extending base member on its bottom portion and also an outward extending cap member on its top portion, each cap member being provided with a suspension bolt near each end thereof and also a plurality of apertures between the bolts, a plurality of couplers insertible into said apertures to connect two of the plates together in spaced apart relation, and a plurality of trestles for supporting the mold plates, the trestles having each a plurality of apertures therein to receive the bolts of adjacently arranged plates.
10. In a cement curbing form, the combination of a side mold plate having an outward extending base member on the lower portion thereof, said member having a plurality of apertures therein adjacent to the end portions of the plate, a foundation mold plate fitted to the bottom of the side mold plate, and a plurality of hangers pivotally connected to the outer sides of the foundation mold plate and insertible through said apertures respectively, each hanger having a lug thereon for engagement with the top of said base member.
