WASHSTANID. v
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented Jammie.
Application filed June 15, 1915. Serial No. 34,180. a
To all whom it may concern: Be 1t known that I, Conn E. KYrE, a citizen of the United States, residing at M0nt-' rose, in the county of Jewell and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Washstands, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in wash-stands, and it'is anobject of my invention to provide device of this general character including a basin supporting member capable of vertical adjustment whereby the basin may be employed with convenience and facility by individuals of differing heights.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved wash-stand whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth;
The novel features of the invention will be carefully defined in the appended claim.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure l is a view in elevation of a washstand constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken through the device as disclosed in Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a View in top plan of the device as herein embodied.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, 1 denotes a table of predetermined configuration having depending therefrom the marginal flange 2 and provided at its axial center with an opening 8. The table 1 is adapted to be maintained in a predetermined spaced position relative to a supporting surface through the medium of the supporting legs 1 preferably four in number. Each of said legs, as herein embodied, is formed of a single length of material having one end portion bent back and entwined around the adjacent portion of the strand and terminat 111g in an eye 5 through which a suitable anchoring member 6 is adapted to extend,
said anchoring member being suitably secured to the depending flange 2. The strand is also disposed, as indicated at 7, beneath the under surface of the table 1 and terminates in an upstanding portion 8 directed through theopening 3 and terminating a predetermined distance above the table 1. It is to be observed that the verticaljportions 8 of the various supporting, legs are entwined one aboutthe other to afford a substantially rigid upright or standard, and it is also to be observed that the upper extremity of one of the vertical portions 8 is'oifset laterally, as at 9, for a purpose to be hereinafter more, particularly referred to.
1O denotes a longitudinally split sleeve, the opposite extremities 11 of the slot of the sleeve being'ofl'set relative to the intermediate, portion 1:2 thereof and thus affording the stops 14: for normally limiting the vertical movements of the sleeve 10. The lateral projection 9, hereinbefore referred to, is adapted to extend through the slot of the sleeve 10 and coact with the stops 14 so that the vertical movements of the sleeve 10 will be limited and also adapted to be received within the bayonet slots 15 in communication with the intermediate portion 12 of the slot of the sleeve 10, it being readily understood that said lateral projection 9 is entered within the bayonet slots 15 or removed therefrom by suitable axial rotation being imparted to the sleeve 10 after the same has been properly adjusted longitudinally of the standard afforded by the vertical portions 8. In order to impart the requisite movements to the sleeve 10, I find it of advantage to suitably aiiix thereto the handle member 16.
Radiating from the upper extremity of the sleeve 10 are the arms 17 arranged on a downward bow or curvature and having their extremities connected by the annular member 18 adapted to receive and support a conventional wash basin W, said annular member 18 being provided with a conventional soap holder 19. g
It will be readily appreciated that when my improved wash-stand is desired to be" used by children, the sleeve 10 will be adjusted to its lowermost position and will be correspondingly elevated in accordance with the convenience of other individuals who may use the device. It will also be peris of an extremely simple and comparatively principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and vformation of the several parts herein shown in'carrying out my invention in practice.
,Iclaim: T p i A wash-stand comprising a table with an openingat substantially its center,supporting legs for said table provided with extensitns disposed through the opening of the table and terminating a. distance thereabove,
Copies of this patent ma be said extensions being interlocked and one of said extensions terminating in a lateral projection, a sleeve surrounding the extensions of the supporting legs and provided with a slot through which the lateral extension is disposed, said slot having in communication therewith spaced offset slots produced in the sleeve in which the lateral extension is adapted to'be received for holding the sleeve 'in vertical adjustment, arms radiatingfrom the upper end of the sleeve, and a rim member supported by said arms.
In test mony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
