To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosEPH G. STRooK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Trindle Spring, in the county of Cumberland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Bath-Seat, of which the following is a specification.
It is theobject of this invention, to pro vide, in a simple, merchantable and inexpensive form, a seat, adapted to be mounted in a bath tub or the like, and to provide a discharge pipe, adapted to be revolved about the seat, to discharge horizontally across the seat, for the cleansing of the person who is occupying the seat.
Another object of t-he invention is to provide a device of the character herein set forth, which may readily be adapted for use by persons of varying statures.
In the drawings,-Figure. 1 shows the invention in side elevation; Fig. 2 is a fragmental horizontal section; Fig. 3 is a bot-' tom plan of the seat, parts being shown in section; and Fig. 4 is a sectional detail of the discharge pipe and its attendant elements.
In carrying out the invention, there is provided, as a primary and fundamental element, 3. base 1, having legs 2, of which there may be four. Retaining elements 3 are eX- tended downwardly through the extremities of the legs 2, to engage resilient buttons 4. There is an upright axial opening in the base 1, and into this opening is inserted the lower end of an upright intake pipe 5. Upon the bottom of the base 1 there is a connect-ion 6, whereby the intake pipe 5 may be united with a hose 7, the hose being connected with a suitable bath tub fixture, or with a hand force pump or the like. A collar 8 is rotatably mounted upon the intake pipe 5,
of the discharge pipe 14 is inserted into the nipple 10, the upright portion 16 of the discharge pipe being spaced at a considerable distance beyond the periphery of the seat 12. The upper end of the discharge pipe 14 is closed by a cap 17. Surrounding the upright portion 16 of the discharge pipe 14, are a plurality of sections of casing the sections being denoted by the numeral 18. The intake pipe 5 is pierced by a horizontally disposed rowof openings 19, and in the upright portion 16 of the discharge pipe 14 there is a series of ports 20. In the sec= tions 18 of the casing there are openings 21, adapted to be brought into and out of engagement with the ports 20, by a rotation of the sections 18.
The operation of the device is as follows. The water, proceeding from any suitable source of supply, will pass through the hose 7, into the intake pipe 5, and thence through the discharge pipe, and out of the ports 20, these ports 20 being so positioned that they will discharge toward the seat 12. The upright portion 16 of the discharge pipe may be revolved about the seat, and thus the person occupying the seat, may be thoroughly bathed from every side. By successively rotating the sections 18, so that the openings 21 therein are out of alinement with certain of the ports 20 in the discharge pipe, certain portions of the discharge pipe may be cut off, the device being thus adapted for use by persons of tall or of short stature. By reason of the fact that the chamber 9 is formed in the collar 10, the openings 19 in the intake pipe 5 will discharge continuously into the pipe 14, so long as there is pressure in the hose 7. The intake pipe 5 serves both to supply the discharge pipe 14, and as a means upon which the collar 8 is rotatably mounted. The seat 12, in addition to its obvious function, serves to retain the collar 8 upon the intake pipe 5. By reason of the fact that the ports 20 in the upright portion 16 of the discharge pipe 14 discharge toward the axis of the intake pipe 5, the water will at all times be ejected directly upon the person who is occupying the seat 12, the water thus being prevented from spurting out over the edge of the receptacle in which the device is mounted. Thus, the receptacle need be but little larger than the base 1, the mounting of the device in a large receptacle, such as a bath tub, being axial opening through the collar 8 is enlarged to form a chamber 9.. Upon one side of the collar 8 there is a nipple 10. The ends of the collar 8 carry glands 1]., adapted to prevent a leakage about the ends of the collar 8, without, however, interfering with. the rotation of the collar upon the intake pipe 5. A seat 12 is secured to the upper end of the intake pipe 5, and serves to close the same.

purely optional With the user. By removing the buttons 4, the retaining elements 3 may be inserted into the ceiling, the device in such instance, depending from the ceiling, instead of upstanding from a fixed support, such as a bath tub or the like.
It is to be understood that the drawings show typical embodiments merely, and that changes, properly falling within the scope of what is claimed may be made, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. A device of the class described comprising a base; a seat supported above the base; a discharge pipe rotatably connected with the base and having an upright portion revoluble about the seat; and means for connecting the discharge pipe with a source of supply.
2. A device of the class described comprising a base; an upright intake pipe mounted in the base; a collar rotatable upon the intake pipe; a seat mounted upon the intake pipe above the collar; a dis charge pipe forming a continuation of the intake pipe and having one end mounted in the collar, the other end of the discharge pipe being disposed in an upright position for revolution about the seat; and means for connecting the intake pipe with a source of supply.
