TRACE-CARRIER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 18, 1916.
Application filed July 16, 1915. Serial No. 40,206.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEVI H. CHASE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented a new and Improved Trace-Carrier, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to that class of devices in which a harness ring is arranged to receive the back strap, crupper strap and hip straps and embodies in addition elements for receiving the traces to hold the latter.
My invention provides for embodiment in harness rings or frames of the character mentioned, trace carrier elements of strong and simple form arranged to receive the trace ends in a manner efiectively to prevent their accidental detachment, and at the same time to present an ornamental appearance.
The invention will be particularly eX- plained in the specific description following.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a trace carrier embodying my invention; and Fig. 2 is a section on the line 22 Fig. 1.
In producing a practical embodiment of my invention, the frame 10, usually in the form of a ring, and hereinafter generally designated as a ring, is adapted to receive the back strap A, and crupper strap B at the back and front of the said ring respectively, and the hip straps G at opposite sides.
In connection with the frame or ring 10, I employ an element designated generally by the numeral 11, which is formed of a single piece. At the ends I produce on the element 11 volute members 12, which terminate at their upper free ends in return bends 13, or equivalent formation to avoid sharp terminals and to give a finish,
The bases of the volute members 12 lie in the plane of the ring 10, or substantially so, and said members rise in the form approximately of conical helices, so that the terminals 13 are considerably above the ring 10. The bases of the volute members furthermore merge into and are connected by a cross-bar 14 from which the said members curve in opposite directions and approach in close juxtaposition to and conform to the curvature of the ring 10 at diametrically opposite sides, and are secured to the latter by brazing, or any other suitable means.
By the described construction it will be seen that a highly ornamental appearance is given to the combined harness ring and trace carrier. The trace carrying elements with their cross-bar constitute a brace across the ring, and the formation of the volute members prevents the possibility of traces D when held as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1, from becoming accidentally detached.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A trace carrier consisting of a harness ring adapted to receive a back strap and a crupper strap at the front and back respectively, and to receive hip straps at opposite sides whereby to connect the said four straps, and an element formed in a single piece, presenting volute members at oppo site ends adjacent to opposite sides of the ring, the bases of the volute members following the curvature of the ring and lying against the same and being united thereto, so that the hip straps embrace the ring and the bases of the said volute members, the respective bases merging and forming a cross-bar therebetween from which said members curve oppositely, the cross-bar thus serving to connectthe said volute members and constituting a transverse brace across the ring, said cross-bar lying substantially in the plane of the ring while the volute members rise in helical form above the ring.
In testimony whereof I have subscribed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LEVI H. CHASE.
