To allee/710m it'mag/ concern.' y
Beit known'that l, Planar S. MnoAn'r, a citizen of the United States of America, and ak resident vof the city of St. Louis, inl the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vaulting-Troughs, of which the following 1s a specification.
This invention relates to vaulting apple ances employed in athletic exercises, andV has for its objectto provide a safe and effective fulcrum bearingfor the/end of a vaulting pole, and with lwhich a resilient impact is provided for the pole end to lessen the jaiyandk in which all liability to accidental slippage of the pole endV is prevented, all as will hereinafter more fully appear. f
ln the accompanying drawings: Figure l, is a perspective view illustrating the general arrangement of kparts `in the preferred form of the present invention. a longitudinal section. Fig. 3, is a detached perspective view of the buffer springs and their supporting plate. Ifig. 4, is a similar view of the buffer head or` plate.
Similar reference numerals indicate like parts in the several views.
Referring to the drawings, i designates a curved web or shell constituting the main body or portion of the present open top vaulting trough or bowl, and preferably of an expanded formtoward its forward end, and with such end of the open curvedform shown to admit an easy entrance of the fulcrum, end of the vaulting pole 2. The web or shell l is disposed on a downward slope from` the above mentioned forward and open end to the hereinafter described rear and closed end of the appliance, with a view to assist in a sliding movement of the fulcrum end of the vaulting pole to and against said rear and closed end.
3 designates a transverse supporting leg or iiange at the forward and open end of the .shell l aforesaid, and preferably formed as an integral part therewith.
4 designates a short transverse supporting leg at the rear end of the shell l aforesaid, and preferably formed as an integral part therewith.
5 designates a fixed transverse wall at the rear of the aforesaid shell 1 and preferably formed as an integral part therewith.
Specification of Letters Patent.

plate hinged at its upper end to the shell l, aforesaid, and disposed in adjacent spaced relation to the transverse rear wall 4 aforesaid.
7, designates a' series' of elastic bumpersy disposed intermediate of the buffer plate 1 or head 6 andthe rear wall 5 aforesaid and adapted to offer a yielding resistanceto they movement of said buer plate or head in actual use. Said elastic bumpers 7 will usually be in the form of short cylinders of rubberor the like.
8 designates a bumper supporting plate interposedbetween the buffer plate or head `6 and the rear wall 5, and formed with a series of holding orifices for the series of bumpers `7, aforesaid, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
9A designates a headed screw or stud extending down from the bottom of the legS aforesaid, and adapted for detachable engagement with a liXed floor plate 10, having an elongated and expanded receiving slot 11,as shown` No claim however, is made to such means of connection, and any other and suitable means may be employed instead, without departing fromthe spirit of the present invention.
Having thus fully described my said invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is :-y p l. A vaulting trough comprising, an open top ymember `formed with a curved bottom web and having a transverse head at its rear end, substantially as set forth.
2. A vaulting trough comprising, an open top member having an inclined bottom and a transverse head at its rear end, sub
stantially as set forth.
3. A vaulting trough comprising an open top member having a transverse head at its rear end, the sides of said member having a flare toward the forward end, substantially as set forth. l
4l. A vaulting trough comprising an open top member having an inclined bottom and a transverse head at its rear end, the sides of said member having a flare toward the forward end, substantially as set forth.
5. A vaulting trough comprising, an open top member having a transverse buffer plate hinged at its upper end to the rear end of said trough, and an elastic bumper smopo'rtingl said buffer plate, vsubstantially as set forth. 6. A vaulting trough ferriplate .hinged at its upper endto the rear end of said trough, and an elastic bumper supporting said buffer plate, the
sides of said member having aplare toward itheforWardend, substantially as set forth.
