Description

L. M. SAYEN.
CHAIR.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 10, 1915.
Patented J an. 11, 1916.
To all whom it may concern ED sTAr srArENT orrron.
LILLIAN M. SAYEN, OF ROCK, MICHIGAN.
CHAIR.
Be it known that I, LILLIAN M. SAYEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rock 1. 0., in the county of Delta and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chairs, of which the fOllOWlIl is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in chairs, and has especial reference to chairs for use in nurseries for children.
One of the objects of my invention is to combine, in a novel manner, a childs toilet chair with a stool, thereby jointly providing a highchair, and with a trundle platform, and to thereby provide a vehicle to more conveniently move the chair and its occupant from place to place in the room.
Other, further and more specific objects of my invention will be readily understood by persons skilled in the art, from a consideration of the following description when taken in conjunction with the drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation, showing the chair mounted on a. nursery table and secured thereto by clamps engaging two opposite lower rungs. Fig. 2 is a section, taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section, taken on line 3-3 of'Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the chair secured in like manner to the trundle platform. Fig. 5 is a horizontal section on line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
In all the views the same reference characters are. employed to indicate similar parts.
My combined chair provides a novel and advantageous combinative arrangement with other mentioned appurtenances of the nursery.
The chair and table are each separately useful articles and each contribute, when associated, to perform conjoint results, or in other words, the usefulness of the chair is promoted by the association of the table 1:. and vice versa, and so with the trundle platform, the chair and platform when associated, jointly, provide a convenient go-cart or vehicle for indoor use.
A convenient, simple means for securely connectin the parts together forms another feature 0 my invention.
My chair 10 is preferably provided with a pair of arms 11 and a tray 12, the latter is ivoted to one arm and secured in position y means of a pin 13, which depen s from the lower surface thereof and enters a prop- Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Jan, 11, 1916,
Application filed July 10, 1915. Serial No. 89,081.
the chair arm 11 and then move it outwardly 7 upon its hinge.
v The chair is provided with two relatively long, substantially vertically disposed legs and back parts 14 and 15 and two shorter front legs 16 and 17, the latter terminating at the perforate seat or bottom 18. Below the seat 18 is a cabinet 19, containing a drawer 20. The drawer is provided with rounded corners so as to easily be cleansed and is slidable into and out of the cabinet between the front legs 16 and 17.
A closure, or cover 21, is hinged, as at 22, to the bottom or seat 18 of the chair, and is adapted to close the perforation 22 in said bottom.
The legs 14, 15, 16 and 17 are joined near their bottom ends with rungs 23-23 which are all, preferably, in substantially the same horizontal plane.
The nursery table 24 is provided with four le s 25-25, as usual with tables, being jomed together with the usual rungs 26-26 and provided with a top 27 substantially the same dimensions and shape as the top 27 of the trundle platform. The top is of width sufficient to enter between the legs 15 and 17 on one side and the legs 14 and 16 on the other side, and to permit the front and rear rungs 23-23 to rest upon the top.
Clamps 28, ass through the tops 27, 27 and are provi ed with a turned over end 29 and screw threaded shank 30. The turned over ends overlie the rungs 23-23 of the chair, and when the butterfly nuts '-30 are properly turned, the chair is firmly held by the clamps to the table top 27 or the trundle to 27. When the chair is taken from the ta le, the clamps 28-28 are turned so that their salient ends 29-29 rest u on the table, when the nuts 30-30' may e further tightened which will hold the clamps with their exposed ends in contact with the upper surface of the table and therefore they will be out of the way and danger to the child.
When the chair is separated from the table, and the trundle platform, each of the articles may be separately and advantaappro riate geously used for the convenience and entertainment of the child, but when they are associated they jointly provide a new nursery article of furniture. The trundle plat- -form comprises a platform 27, substantially the same size, dimension and confi ration as the top of the table, and an un erlying frame 33 provided with rollers or wheels 34. Having described my invention, what I claim is r '1. In combination with a chair, having four leg-joining rungs in the same hOI'lzontal plane, of a support having a top, within one pair of oppositely disposed rungs and projecting beyond the other pair, and clamps secured to the top and engaging the pair of rungs. 2. n combination with a chair having menace four leg-joining rungs, in the same horizontalplane, of a support having a top, within one pair of oppositely disposed rungs and underlying and projecting beyond the other pair; .a plurality of clamps, each c0mpris mg a screw-threaded shank and a turned ever end to engage a given pair of rungs,
said shanks passing through said top and a nut on the threaded shank of each clamp, under said top, to cause the opposite pair of I rungs to securely engage sa1d top.
In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
Mns. LILLIAN M. SAYEN. In the presence of- EVA litarmonn,
*IBRANK Jonnson.
