Description
JOSEPH HAYTON KING, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
ANKLE-SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 4;, 1916.
Application filed. February 12, 1915. Serial No. 7,827.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH HAYTON KING, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ankle-Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to ankle supports for skates and has for its primary object the provision of a structure whereby the device will accommodate different sized shoes.
Another object of the invention is the pivotal connection of the parts so that their angular relation can be varied at will so as to accommodate diflerent sized shoes.
The invention consists in the features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described and claimed, reference being had tothe accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device showing it applied to a shoe. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the device removed from the skate.
In the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a skate runner, to the opposite sides of which are secured the parallel limbs 2 and 3 formed on theplate 4. Formed in that extremity of the plate which projects beyond the runner is an aperture 5 through which passes a pin 6 which also passes through spaced ears 7 formed upon one extremity of a bar 8. From .this arrangement, it will be seen that the bar 8 is free to move in an arc of a circle. The bar 8 has its remaining extremity provided with a slot 9 through which passes the body portion of the secslot 11 that slidably an arcuate movement. It is also to be noted that the yoke and ankle strap have an independent arcuate movement so that the arcu- 7 ate travel of the bars will not in any way aflect the proper adjustment of the ankle strapupon the ankle of the wearer.
Having described my invention, what I claim is An ankle support for skates comprising a I slotted plate secured to opposite sides of the runner of the skate, an ankle strap, a' yoke secured to-said strap at the rear and provided with a rearwardly extending lug, a substantially vertical barpivotally secured at its upper endto said lug for allowing vertical movement of said strap, and a second bar pivotally connected to said plate and gaving a'slidable engagement with said first ar. 7
Intestimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH HAYTON KING.
