AMUS MEN DE ICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 25, 1915. Serial No. 30,321.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES C. JESSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented a new and useful Amusement Device, of which the following is a specification in such full and clear terms as will enable those skilled in the art to construct and use the same.
This invention relates to an amusement device intended for the purpose of distributing merchandise by lot.
An object of the invention is to provide an apparatus having a vehicle upon which a suitable figure may be mounted, which vehicle will travel on a track on the frame carr in the a aratus for drivin the vey in PP c.
hicle, while at the sametime a suitable figure is used at the center of the table and a suit able numbered wheel is used in conjunction with the vehicle and figure, different parts rotating in difierent directions to give an optical illusion as to the direction of travel and motion of the entire apparatus.
An embodiment of the invention is shown means of the switch 6.
The motor has a belt 7 extending to and around a. pulley 8 on a vertical shaft 9. The shaft 9 carries three pulleys 10, Hand 12, while belts 13, 14 and 15 from said pulleys respectively extend around pulleys. 16, 17 and 18. The pulley 16 is Secured on the lower end of a shaft 19 which carries a decorated figure 20 at its upper end.
Outside of the shaft 19 there is a sleeve 21 upon which the pulley 17 is mounted, said sleeve carrying two arms22 and 23, which arms are secured to a Wheeled vehicle 24 at the outer ends thereof, said vehicle running Patented J an. 4, 1916.
on track s 25 and 26. The arms 22 and23. carry an arrow 27 to indicate the numeral over which the arms stop. Outside of the sleeve 21 there is a tubular sleeve 29 carrying a circular Wheel 30, which wheel has a plurality of spaces and numbers to indicate the spaces around its outer edge.
In operation the wheeled carriage, figure and other parts are rotated by starting the speed than either of the other rotating parts.
The effect of this is to give the appearance of all, of the rotating parts traveling much faster than they, actually'a-re.
As was previously mentioned the device is for the purpose of distributing merchandise by lot and after it has been started it is permitted to come to a standstill, whereupon the arrow points to one of the figures on the numbered wheel, which figure is used in the distribution of the merchandise.
The device is also used merely as an amusement device by simply rotating the carriage, numbered wheel and figure.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is as follows, modifications within the scope of the claims being expressly reserved:
1. In an amusement device, a table, a. track thereon, a carriage running on said track, a numbered wheel revoluble on the table, means to'rotate the wheel, and means to cause the carriage to travel around the table in an opposite direction from the direction of movement of the wheel.
2. In an amusement device, a table, a track thereon, a carriage on said track, a revoluble wheel on the table, a revoluble figure at the center of the wheel, means to cause the carriage to travel around the track in one direction, and means to rotate the wheel andfigure in difierent directions and'at different ratesof speed.
3. An amusement device comprising a table, a motor suspended in a frame below said table, a revoluble Wheel on the table, In testimony whereof I have hereunto set tracks on the table, a carriage on said tracks, my hand this 15 day of May A. D. 1915, in
a revoluble figure at the center of the Wheel, the presence of the two subscribed Witnesses. 10
