PATENTED JUL 1871 Vm ent. uw
UNITED STATES CHARLES F. LINSCOTT, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT INV CLOTHES-DRIERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,606, dated July 4, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLEs F. LINscoTT, of the city of Chicago, county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clothesdh'iers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descripti on thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the a ccompanyin g drawin g formin a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my invention, and Fig 2 is a plan or top view of the same when folded.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspond ing parts in the several figures of the drawin g.
The. object of my invention is to provide a clothes-drier, so arranged as to admit of being opened and folded from its center, whereby less space is required for the same when in use and when not in use; and the in'lprovement consists in a series of frames, one en d or side of each of said frames being connected to the other by strips ,of cloth or other similar and suitable material,
alternately secured -aronnd the posts in such a manner as to form a hinge, by which means the said frames may be folded or unfolded at will. It also consists in providing a series of ropes and cords attached to the outer' side of each frame in such a manner as to secure said frames rm when unfolded for use, and at the same time makin additional surface upon which to hang clothes, adescription of which, in detail, will be hereinafter fully given.
In the accompanying drawing, A represents the frames, which are constructed of posts and rails in the usualrmanner. B B' are strips of cloth or other similar material, which are attached to and around the inner posts of each frame, and are alternately secured to the outer and inner sides of the same by tacks a a., thereby attaching the several frames ea eh to theother. Thea-rrangement of said strips is such as to allow the posts to which they are attached to be turned to one common center when the several frames are unfolded. Firmly attached to the outer side of the outer posts of each frame are ropes or cords C C l, which are so arranged as to extend from post to post as the severa-l frames are unfolded and turned to their proper position. One end of each of said ropes is provided with a loop to slip over and upon pins e e e secured in the outer side of one of said post-s of the frame, to which the opposite ends ofthe ropes are firmly attached, thus holding the several frames iirm when adjusted in position to be used.
The advantages of my improvement are a greater surface to sustain the clothes for the amount of space occupied by the frames or drier than is obtained by the ordinary clothesdriers or bars, and to be readily folded, and occupying less space when not in use.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The folding' frames A, arranged as described, in combination with the ropes C C C, substantially as and for the pgirposc described.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 13th day of Decelnber, A. D. 1570. CHARLES F. LINSCOTT.
