ANGELO L. SORESI, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
OPERATING-TABLE.
weenie.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANGELO L. SoREsI, a subject of the King of Italy, residing in New York, in the State of New York, have "ented certain new and useful Improvements in Operating-Tables, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to operating tables, and more particularly to a table the object of which is to provide an operating table whereon the patient may rest during the operation, and have his position altered, depending upon the operation to be performed.
Very often it happens that it is desired to shift the table from one position to another, during an operation, and in different directions, and the tables hitherto in use did not permit this shifting. Furthermore, in the tables hitherto in use, the supporting parts thereof were very often in the way of the operators, and the object of this in-- vention is to provide a table in which these parts are out of the way, and therefore not likely to be encountered by the operators.
For this purpose my invention consists of an improved operating table having a main table-portion and means for shifting the table-portion in any direction in respect to the horizontal.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved operating table, Fig. 2 is a sideview thereof, partly in section, showing the table in shifted position, in dotted lines, Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33, Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a section on line 14= of Fig. 1.
Similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the various figures.
Referring to the drawing, and more particularly to Fig. 1, my improved operating table has a standard 10 with a base 11, which is preferably arranged of a suitable weight so as to give the necessary stability to the table. The upper part of the standard is provided with a rotatable gear-wheel 12.
vA spherical ball-bearing part 14 receives a ball or universal joint 15. This ball or universal joint 15 is extended into a member 16, to which is secured a bracket-arm 17, suitably secured to the table-portion 18. The table thus supported by the member 16 is capable of rotation or of assuming any position in a horizontal plane. To efiect this,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 28, 191.5.
Application filed January 17, 1914. Serial No. 812,646.
the gear-wheel 12 is engaged by a spindle 20 which is supported by a bracket 22 which 1s secured to the standard 10 by means of suitable screws 23. The spindle is turned by a thumb-piece 25, and by the turning of this spindle 20 the gear-wheel 12 is rotated, and thereby the ball 15 and member 16, and thereby the table 18 is rotated. In order to shift the table-portion 18in any direction in respect to the vertical, the gear-wheel 12 is provided with an extension 27, to which is hinged a member 28, which is interiorly screw-threaded, and through which the screw-threaded member 29 passes. The end of this screw-threaded member is fitted into a bearing member 30, which bearing member is hinged at 31 to the bracket-portion 17. The screw-threaded member 29 is provided with a thu1nb-piece 33 to enable it to be readily rotated. The standard 10 is composed of a main part 35 and a detachable part 36, which has its projection engaging the main part 35, and is secured thereto by screws 37.
The operation of my improved table is as follows: If it is desired to rotate the table while the same is in horizontal position, the thumb-piece 25 is turned, whereby the spindle 20 is rotated, and the gear-wheel 12 rotated in respect to its center. To further change the table, the thumb-piece 33 is rotated, and the screw-threaded member 29 rotated thereby, whereby the table-portion is moved in one or the other direction, depending upon the position desired to be given. By the relative movement of the thumbscrews 25 and 33, the table is changed in position. a
My improved operating table has the great advantage of being able to be adjusted to Whatever, position is desired, depending upon the particular operation to be performed, or upon the special exigencies arising during an operation. A further advantage is that the supporting members are all out of sight, and not likely to be encountered by the operators.
Having thus described vmy invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In an operating table, the combination of a table, a supporting member secured thereto, a support for said supporting member, adjusting means on said support for revolving the said supporting member and the table around a vertical axis, a second adjusting means connected to said supporting member and said support for adjusting said supporting member and said table around a horizontal axis, said second adjusting means revolving around the aforesaid vertical axis with said su porting member and saidt'table, when the sis-mentioned adjusting means is operated. I
2. In an operating table, the combination of a table, a supporting member secured thereto, shall on the member, a ball-bearing for theball, a support, a bracket on the sup-- port, a rotatable gear-wheel on the support,
a spindle on the bracket for rotating the;
gear-wheel, a bracket on the gear-wheel,
a hinged member supported by the bracket, 5 I
and a spindle in the hinged member screw threadedly engaging therewith, and having its end secured to the supporting member close to the table. 7
. In testimony,.'that I claim theforegoing 20 as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses. 7
