BUILDING CONSTRUCTION.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 28, 1915.
Application filed March 30, 1914. Serial No. 828,153.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK R. HAHN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Decatur, in the county of Macon and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Building Construction, of which the following is a specification. e
My invention relates to improvements in building construction and particularly to that type of construction utilizing cement or plastic units.
The principal object of this invention is the provision of a two part block having tongued and grooved edges with a water proof material interposed therebetween and extending into said grooves.
To the accomplishment of the foregoing and such other objects as may hereinafter appear, my invention consists in the combi-' nation, construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, and then sought to be defined in the appended claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, and which shows merely for the purpose of illustrative disclosure, a preferred embodiment of my invention, it being understood that various changes may be made in practice within the scope of the claim, without digressing from my inventive idea.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of tile. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the two parts forming a tile constructed according to my invention. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a completed tile.
Attention is first directed to Fig. 1, wherein is shown one form of tile. constructed according to my invention. This tile has two edges grooved as indicated at 2 and two edges provided with the V-shaped projections 3 corresponding to said grooves, whereby adjacent tiles are fitted together. On each side of these grooves 2 and edges 3 are the bearing shoulders or flanges 4, which provide means whereby the blocks or tiles may be supported one upon the other, Without the possibility of the wall or partition being broken to pieces or falling, these horizontal flanges providing a secure base for the tile or block next above.
It is also to be noted that each tile or providea block having the V-shaped grooves and edge extensions 9 and 10 similar to those shown in Fig. 1. The two parts of this block are paneled as shown at 11, said panels being provided on the inner side of the two parts. These two parts are adapted to be placed together substantially as indicated in Figs. 2 and 3 and have a suitable water-proof paper or material 12 interposed therebetween, so as to prevent the two parts contacting, this interposition of a waterproof material preventing the passage of dampness therethrough, and being a material advantage. It is to be noted that this water-proof material or paper 12 is extended to fit the V-shaped grooves 9 so that when the adjacent tile or block fits therein, the two blocks will not oontact directly with each other and the joint will be water-proof.
What I claim is:
A block or tile formed of two parts corresponding in shape and size to provide a plurality of the edges with V,-shaped grooves and a plurality of the edges with V-shaped tongues or extensions, whereby adjacent tiles may be interlocked, and a water-proof material interposed between said two parts and extending into said grooves so as to provide grooves with their sides of waterproof material, so that the adjacent blocks or tiles do not contact directly with each other.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
FRANK R. HAHN.
