To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTON O. EGGERS, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York, in the borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Floor-Coverings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to floor-coverings and more particularly to such coverings as are formed of interlocking tiles provided with elastic inserts or filling-pieces.
The object of the invention is to provide a floor-covering in which the structure is made very unitary by having certain of the fillingpieoes extend over and cover the joints between the tiles. By this arrangement the appearance of the floor-covering is also made more attractive than if the joints were uncovered, and the leakage of water or other fluid through the joints prevented.
With these ends in view the invention consists in a floor-covering the novel features of which will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, in which the same reference characters denote the same parts throughout the views, Figure 1 is a plan view of a floor-covering constructed in accordance with the invention, Fig. 2 is a section on line 22, Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3, Fig. 1.

In Fig. 1, 6 denotes a pocket formed wholly on one tile, while 6 indicates a pocket formed on four tiles so that its filling-piece will cover the joints between them.
The connection between the tiles a may be made in any suitable manner. In the construction shown the tiles are provided at their edges with shoulders a 04 and the shoulders a have pins a formed thereon, while the shoulders or are perforated as shown at a to receive the pins of the adjacent tiles.
The important feature of the invention is the arrangement of the filling-pieces in such a manner that they overlie the joints between the tiles'. In this manner, although the filling-pieces are merely set in place and not cemented, the floor-covering as a whole is formed into a very unitary, firmly-connected structure. At the same time by covering the joints between the tiles the appearance of the floor-covering is considerably improved.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
In a floor-covering, the combination of a plurality of tiles connected at their edges and provided upon their upper surfaces with raised ribs, the ribs being so arranged as to form pockets extending over more than one tile, and filling-pieces in said pockets extending over the joints between the tiles.
