CORN-HUSKING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 28. 1915.
Application filed April 25, 1914. Serial No. 834,446.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN A. NELSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Holdrege, in the county of Phelps and State of Nebraska, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corn-Husking Devices, of which the following is a specification'.
This invention relates to improvements in eorn-husking devices of the type applied to the hand.
The invention has for its object to provide for effecting the hus'king operation directly by the action of the hand.
A further object is to carry out that end with facility and effectively, and in a simple manner.
The invention therefore consists of a contrivance for equipping or arming the hand ing operation, substantially ashereinafter fully disclosed and defined by the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing is illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention, wherein it will be understood that various changes and modifications may be made as to the detailed construction and arrangement of parts without departing .f1'(1;l1 the scope of the'appended claim and in which drawing- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my in vention as applied to the hand for practical use. Fig. 2 is a detached perspective view of the invention.
In carrying out my invention. I provide, as usually practised in applying this type of husker to use, for harnessing the same upon the hand, preferably by the employment of straps. 1, 2 and 3. suitably secured together to bring .he thumb of one hand through a loop formed thereby. and to encompass the hand at the base of the fingers and the-wrist. 'l'he strap 1, which is provided with a buckle 4 at one end and apertures 5 in its opposite end-portion for suitably buckling t-he sune to the hand has suitably secured or riveted thereto, as at 6, about as in aiding the same in effecting the huskopposite the union of the forefinger and thumb, the strap 2, the connection with the latter being about intermediate its ends. The strap 2 has its ends secured or riveted together and to the strap 3, as at 7, and the strap 3 is suitably equipped at one end with a buckle 8 and provided in its opposite endportion with apertures 9 for the buckling of said strap around the wrist.
The husker-proper l0 suitably riveted at the confluence of and to the straps 1 and 2, is of general plate-like outline and has its upper or forward edge extended or curved rearwardly and upwardly and pointed to form a tooth 11, thus providing for thrusting the same into, and effectively tearing or stripping the husks from the ear of corn as the husker is suitably wielded by the hand of the operator. The plate 10 of the husker, as will be apparent, particularly from Fig.
is bodily curved or of areuate outline to cause it to conform to the corresponding contour of the hand, intermediate the forefinger and the thumb to provide for the requisite application or positioning of the husker upon the hand at that "point and the effective thrusting of its tooth 11 into the husk, as will be appreciated.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that I provide asimple. inexpensive and readily contrived device for effectively husking corn by hand. i
I claim- A device of the type described including a plate bodily curved or shaped to conform to the-hand, intcrn'iediate the forefinger and the thumb, said plate having its resultant rounded edge, as distinguished from its concaved or hand engaging surface. provided with an upwardly and rearwardly extendedand pointed tooth, and means for harnessing the husker upon the hand.
In testimony whereof I alliX my signature in presence of two witnesses:
JOHN A. NELSON.
Witnesses \V. M. RANK, G. Nonenno.
