Specificationof Letters Patent.
Patented Decia, rare.
Application filed October 8, 1915. Serial No. 54,835.
To (all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, PAUL A. MAROY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nest New York, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combination Washtrays, Sinks, and Drain Boards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a combined wash tray, sink and drain board and has for its primary object the provision of a structure of this character which may be readily transformed from one to the other as the occasion may necessitate.
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a structure of the type mentioned made to take up comparatively little floor space and one which will include a main tub structure respectively accommodating the sink and drain board and means located to one side of the sink and drain board for permitting access to be readily gained to the different compartments of the tub without necessitating the removal of the sink and drain board from the tub.
Another ob ect of the invention resides in the provision of a structure of this character which will include means for holding the respective separable parts thereof against acoidental derangement.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like reference numerals indicate similar parts throughout the several views :Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through the device showing parts in full lines. Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a section 011 the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
The device consists of a tub body 1, which is divided by a central partition 2 into individual or separate compartments 3 and 4:. And as illustrated the tub is provided with a waste pipe 5 of any suitable'well known construction which is adapted to find communication with an over-flow passage 6.
The compartments 3 and 4. of the tub body are preferably of rectangular form in plan as shown in Fig. 2, and extending partly over the compartment 3 is a portion of the sink 7 having a flange 8 which is adapted to rest upon the upper edge of the wall 9 of the tub body and it will be observed that the forward wall of said sink is disposed in spaced relation to the front wall 10 of the tub as fully shown in Fig. 3. The sink is provided with an over-flow passage 11 which opens into a drain tube 12 and on reference to Fig. 1 the said tube is shown as being extended into a lip 13 which extends from the wall 2. This lip opens into the drain pipe and itis provided with a lateral branch is which has communication with a waste opening 15 in the bottom of the sink, the latter being closed by a removable plug 16.
A porcelain drain board 17 Partly overlies the tub compartment 4, being substantially of the same uniform width as the sink 7 and at one end it is extended over the partition 2 as at 18 and then downwardly as at 19 in the form of a, flange which extends overthe adjacent end wall of the sink and it thus operates to hold the drain tube 12 operatively positioned in the. lip 13 and in fact the construction is also of a design which will permit the sink and drain board to be maintained in uniform fixed relation to one another while in use. The opposite end of the drain board is provided with a flange 20 which extends over the vertical end wall 21 of the tub. This last named construction is also desired in order that the drain board may be held operatively associated with the sin z.
The device herein constructed is devised primarily as a household convenience in which the sink, drain board and wash tub may be compactly associated with one another and the device, as a whole, made to take up comparatively little floor space, while permitting convenient access to be gained to any part or sub-compartment of the structure at the selection of the user. In view thereof a provision is made of swinging shelves or closure plates 22 and 23 which are hinged at 2st to the forward wall 10 of the tub structure. sitions shown in Figs. 2 and 3 the spaces 25 in advance of the sink 7 and drain board 17 are closed. l/Vhen adjusted to the dotted line position as shown in Fig. 3 it follows that access may be quickly gained to the compartments 3 ands to thus permit clothes to be placed in the tub compartments and soaked prior to the operation of washing the same.
A splash board 26 rises from the back of the tub structure and at the top it is provided with a suitable soap rest 27. Suitable hot and cold water faucets 28 are connected withthe splash board and disposed over the compartments 3 and ft to permit water to be run into said compartments at the Wish of the user. The shelves or leaves 22 and 23 When closed to the po" I uponwhich dishes and the like may be very conveniently placed during the operation of Washing the same.
When it is desired to expose the compartments 3 and 4 the drain board is first removed and the leaves 22 and 23 adjusted to the dotted line position shown in ig. 8. The-hands of the operator may then be placed under the bottom of the sink and the latter lifted from above the compartment 3 of the structure.
The simplicity of the structure should be observed and reference should also be. taken to the manner in which the several mating parts of the device are initially assembled and yet arranged whereby the device may be quickly converted from one of the stated designs to another as the occasion necessitates.
That is claimed as neW is 1. A device of the character described comprising, a container having a plurality of compartments, a sink removably fitting upon the container and normally disposed partly over one of the compartments thereof, adrain board disposed partly over the next adjacent compartment of the container and extending in the direction of the sink and partly overhanging the same, and means movably mounted upon the container at a point in advance of the sink and said drain board and serving to normally over-lie the remainingportions of said compartments.
2. A device of the character described comprising, a container having a plurality of compartments, a sink removably fitting upon the container and normally disposed partly over one of the compartments thereof, a drain board disposed partly over the next adjacent compartment of the container and extending in the direction of the sink and partly overhanging the same, and means movably mounted upon the container at a point in advance of the sink and said drain board and serving to normally over-lie the remaining portions of said compartments, and flanges formed on the drain board and respectively engaging the sink and said container, as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I, aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
