ALICE H. EWING, OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH.
CURTAIN-HOLDER.
Application filed February 9, 1915.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALICE I-I. EWING, of Salt Lake City, in the county of Salt Lake, and in the State of Utah, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Curt2Ll11-ITIOlCl61S, and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates particularly to devices for holding curtains, especially for holding curtains at the sides of a window or door frame.
The object of my invention is to provide a holder of this character, by means of which a curtain may be effectively held at one side of the window or door casing, but which is so constructed that when not in use it may be moved entirely out of the way so as not to interfere with the position of the curtain when hanging vertically so as to close the window or door opening.
A further object of my invention is to provide a holder of this character with a supporting bracket, which may be readily attached to a window or door frame or to a wall.
A further object of my invention is to provide such a construction in which there is no necessity for adjusting any part of the apparatus so as to retain the curtain holder in its position while not in use.
\Vhile my invention is capable of embodiment in many different forms, for the purpose of illustration, I have shown only one form thereof in the accompanying draw ings, in which, 1
Figure 1 is an elevation of a doorway equipped with my invention; Fig. 2 is a front elevation of a form of my invention; and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the same.
In my invention as shown in the drawings there is an arm 12, having a curved lateral extension 13. The arm is preferably made from a strip of metal, such as brass, so that the same will not interfere with the curtain when the holder is moved into its inoperative position. The arm 12 is adapted to slide inwardly and outwardly within a sleeve 14 attached to a plate 15, having holes 16 Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 11, 1915.
Serial No. 7,106.
for attaching the same to a window or door frame or a wall. Upon its inner end the arm 1, has a pair of lateral projections 17 which prevent the arm 1 from being pulled entirely out of the sleeve 14.
In the operation of my invention as shown in the drawings the holder while in use is pulled outwardly to the outer limit of its movement, and when it is not in use, it is pushed inwardly to the inner limit of its movement. When pushed inwardly, the lateral extension 13 will lie closely against the window or door frame or wall and the inwardly curved end of the extension 13 will contact with the same so as to prevent the arm from catching in the curtain or interfering with objects in the neighborhood thereof.
lVhile I have described my invention above in detail, it is to be understood that many changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit of my invention.
I claim:
1. In combination, a curtain holder and a bracket holding the same for movement into retracted or extended position, comprising a sleeve to receive the holder for longitudinal sliding movement therein.
2. In combination, a curtain holder comprising a straight arm and a curved lateral extension, and a bracket holding the same for movement into retracted or extended position, comprising a sleeve to receive the holder for longitudinal sliding movement therein.
3. In combination, a curtain holder COIII' prising a metal band in the form of a straight arm and a curved lateral extension, and a bracket holding the same for move ment into retracted or extended position, comprising a sleeve to receive the holder for longitudinal sliding movement therein.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand.
ALICE H. EW'ING.
Witnesses Mrs. E. L. BRALL, G120. A. COLE.
