K. JUNG.
FRAME FOR SHAPl-NG MACHINES. APPLICATION FILED JULY 28. I914.

FRAME FOR SHAPING-MACHINES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 1 1915.
Application filed July 28, 19 14. Serial No. 853,772.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, KARL JUNG, manager, a subject of the German Emperor, and residing at 58-59 Grossbeerenstrasse, Berlin, State of Prussia, in the German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Frames for Shaping- Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the driving mechanism of shaping machines, and a primary object is to provide that the entire driving mechanism can be removed without difficulty from the machine-frame, so that it is readily possible to connect various kinds of driving mechanism with the same frame, 6. 6/. to drive the machine as desired either by a simple driving pulley and intermediate gear, or by a step pulley and the like, as required by the local conditions or the wishes of the purchaser of the machine.
A further advantage of the object of the present invention over the known devices is to be seen in the arrangement of the rocking lever only engaging the tool carrier and of the actuating gear therefor within the frame of the apparatus itself, while no other parts are arranged in said frame. For this reason the mounting and dismounting operations are made very simple and convenient. The openings of said frame can therefore be made comparatively small so that the entire machine is more stable and can do its work more efficiently than the machines known heretofore.
To this end the invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of parts described hereinafter and pointed out in the claims.
One illustrative embodiment of the invention and a modification thereof are diagrammatically represented bv way of example in -'the pin 7) of the gear wheel 72, is journaled.
When the gear wheel rotates, the lever r rocksto and fro and drives the slide 9 with it. The main driving shaft Z) and the shafts c and d of the intermediate gear driving the gear wheel it are journaled in two separate shields c and f at the two sides of the machine, so that no part of the machine-frame itself constitutes a bearing for the shafts. The sides of the machine-frame have suitable apertures, at which the said shields are mounted like covers. By removing the shields or covers it is possible to dismount the entire driving mechanism.
The described arrangement has the advantage that the same machine-frame can be employed for different kinds of driving mechanisms, for example, as will be readily understood from Fig. 2, without changing the machine-frame a driving mechanism comprising a step pulley can be employed, the intermediate gear being omitted. For this purpose it is only necessary to employ different covers 6 and f in which is snitably journaled the shaft for the step pulley g, by which the gear wheel h for the carriage of the shaper is moved in known manner by means of a spur gear or the like.
Another advantage of applicants invention is to be seen in the fact that no mounting of shafts or gears is to be done in the machine frame, so that the machine is easy to manufacture and the openings in the frame which are to be covered by the shields e and f can be made comparatively small.
I claim 1. In a shaping machine, in combination, a frame having apertures in its sides, shields exchangeably mounted on said frame to cover said apertures, a slide movable on the frame, a driving mechanism for said slide, and means arranged on the frame en aging the slide and connecting it with the driving mechanism, said driving mechanism being whollv journaled in said shields.
2. In a shaping machine in combination, a frame having apertures in its sides, shields exchangeably mounted on said frame to cover said apertures, a slide movable on the frame. a rocking lever and a wheel both arranged on the frame for moving said slide, and adriving mechanism engaging said wheel and being entirely journaled in the said shields.
3. In a shaping machine in combination,
wheel and being entirely jonrnaled in said Shields. 7
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
KARL JUNG.
a'frame having apertures in its sides, shields exchangeably mounted on said frame to cover said apertures, a slide movable on the frame, a rocking lever and a wheel both arranged 0n the frame for moving saidslide, and a driving mechanism comprising" a. power operated main shaft and means operatingly connecting said main shaft With said Witnesses VVOLDEMAR HAUPT. HENRY HAsPER.
