Description

W. NEMETHY.
F'LUSHING VALVE,
APPLICATION FlLED JAN. 6, 1915.
Patented Dec. 7, 1915.
INVE/VTUR William Nemefh WITNESSES I ATTORNEYS WILLIAM NEMETHY, OF YONKEBS, NEW YORK.
FLUSHING-VAIJVE.
Specification of Letters rat-exit.
Patented Dec. '3, 1915.
Application filed January 6, 1915. Serial No. 739.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it hown that 1, WILLIAM Nnam'rnr, a citizen of the United States, and a resi-' dent of Yonkers, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Flushing-Valve,
of which the following is a full, clear, and
exact description.
My invention has for its object to provide a valve having a sleeve slidably mounted on a guide secured to a tank at an outlet therein, the guide aflording communication between the tank and the outlet when the sleeve and the valve are raised against the resiliency of a spring connecting the sleeve with the guide.-- i
Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following specification in which the preferred form of my invention is disclosed.
In the drawings similar reference characters refer to similar parts in all the views in which-Figure '1 is a sectional view showing my invention in elevation; and Fig. 2 a
is an enlarged fragmentary view showing the construction of the valve and valve seat.
By referring to the drawings. it will be seen that a. tank 5 is provided having a threaded opening 6 in which meshes a thread 7 on a sleeve 8, to which the valve seat 9 is secured. The sleeve 8 is screwed into position in the threaded opening 6 in the tank 5, washers 10 being provided to prevent any leakage between the valve seat 9 and the bottom of the tank; and a nut 11 being provided which meshes with the outer thread 7 on the sleeve 8 to turn home againstthe bottom of the tank. In this way the sleeve 8 together with the valve seat 9 is held. in position.
' Not only has-the sleeve San outer thread '4', but it also has an inner thread 12 with which meshes a thread. 13 on the tubular guide 14, and a thread 15 on the outlet pipe 16. The tubular guide 14 extends some distance beyond the bottom of the tank 5 and is provided with openings 17 through which the water in the tank may flow to the outlet 16 when the valve 18, the sleeve 19 and the casing 20, are raised, The valve 18 has an annular portion 21, for engaging the inner side. of the valve seat 9, and the valve 18 also has an annular projection 22 for seating in the recess 23 in the valve seat 9 and in addition, the valve 18 has a peripheral extension 24 for engagingthe outer sides of the valve seat 9. The sleeve19 is secured at the inner side of the valve 18 and the 'casing 20 is secured to the outer side of the valve 18, the casing 20 having a head 25 with an opening 27 through which a screw 26 is disposed, the screw 26 having a head 28 within the casing, the head 28 being connected with the sleeve 19 by the links 29 and the pin 30 which is disposed in and transversely of the sleeve 19 with its terminals secured to the sleeve in openings 31.
To this pin 30 there is secured a spring 32, the spring 32 being also secured to the pin 33 which has its terminals disposed in the openings 34 in the tubular guide 1 1.
It will be understood that when the cams ing 20 and the sleeve 19 are raised bythe means provided, the valve 18 will be removed from its seat 9 to permit water in the tank 5 to flow through the openings 17 into the tubular guide it and to the outlet 16-; out that under normal conditions, the spring 32 will serve to hold the sleeve and the casing 20 down in position where the valve 18 will be seated on the valve seat 9 to prevent water from flowing from the tank 5 to the opening 17 in the tubular guide 1 1.
' Having thus described my invention I .claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a flushing valve, a valve seat having a sleeve, a tubular guide secured within the sleeve, the tubular guide having an opening through its side and being disposed within the valve seat and spaced therefrom, a sleeve mounted on the tubular guide and having its lower end normally extending into the space between the valve seat and thetubusleeve, the tubular guide having an opening through its side and being disposed within the valve seat and spaced therefrom, a sleeve mounted on the tubular guide and having its lower end normally extending into the space between the valve seat and the tubular guide, and a valve mounted on mens s the sleeve above the said lower end thereof i'or' cooperating with the valve seat, an inclosing casing secured to the vvalve, and means in the casing for holding the valve on its seat. a
3. In a flushing valve, a tank with an outlet opening, a valve seat around the opening, a valve with a peripheral extension normally disposed against the outer side of -10 the valve seat, an inclosing casing secured to the valve anti means in the casing for holding the valve on its seat.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
