Patent-ea Mar. e, reto. Selil N0. 494,533.
, York and State of N ew York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ball- Cocks, of which the ication.
This invention relates to the construction of a ball cock or tank Valve, that is, one of those articles which are arranged ina tank, and are provided with valve isopened to admit a fresh supply when the level of the water in the tank is lowered, and the valve is closed to stop the the level of the water in 4 the following is a specitank is restored.
The object of this` invention .is to provide a very 'simple .and cheap ball cock, of the balanced type, that is, one in which the water pressureis exerted oppositely onv both ends of 'tie spindle, so that the valve 'will be sensitive and can be opened quickly and closed tightly by a small ball or float..
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings shows a central section of a balanced ball cock which embodies this invention. Fig. 2 shows srside view and Fig. 3 shows an edge view ofthe yoke which engages the spindle, and to which the` stem of the ball or float is desifrncd to be adjnstably attached.l l v T c cock shown has a tubular stein l, which is designed to extend through the bob toni or side wall' of a tank. This stem has an exterior threadu on which the usual nuts may be turned or securingthe cock in place, and upon which the coupling used to connect it with the water supply pipe, ma;7 be turned. The stleln at onev end 'has a cup 2, which surrouncs the seat 3 that is formed at that end of the passage through` the stein. Screwed into an interior thread, rut in the cup, is the large end ofthe casing, which comprises an enlarged cylindrical section 4 and a reduced cylindrlcal sect-ion In one side of the enlarged sect-in of the casing is a threaded opening 21, into which a bib may be screwed. The bib may be straight, as shown by the dotted lines 6, or
curved, as shown by the dotted 'lines 7,
according to desire. -In one side of the a doat by which the I .f reduced section of the casing isan opening S, and extending outwardly, each side of this opening, is an ear 9. The topiof the reduced section is tight.
The spindle l0 has a straight Aperforation l121 which extends centrally from end to en ythe Abore of the reduced section of the easing. .A se t washer 12 is secured to the lower; end
a cup packing 14. is secured to the upper end 'vof the aspindleby a perforated screw l5. The spindle is cut down to reduce it and embracing the reduced portion, and
`formed by thereduction, is a lfork 16. This forkis held by a ivot 17, that extends project from lthe reduced section of the casing each side -of the opening therein. Properforationv 19 for the passage ofthe screw or bolt used to secure the end of the `float rod to the arm. The'surface of the arm about the perforation is roughened, or provided with teeth, '20 in order that' the end desired relation y This cock has few parts, vis Ve'ry cheap to construct, and is efficient 'and durable in use. v
The inventionlclainied is: v Y* A ball cock having an "exteriorlythreaded tubular stem with a seat atione'end and an interiorly threaded,` cup 'surroundin the seat, a casing comprising an enlarge "secin a threaded opening in-one side, .and a reduced section, with a closedupper end, said section having an opening in one side and a perforated ear projecting `each side of saidopening, a spindle with a reduced intermediate portion, loosely fitting the bore ofthe reduced section ofthe casing, said spindle having a central perforationcxtending in a straight line'frorn end to end, a
