citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Toilet-Seats and Means for Retaining the Same in Position, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to improve- I The invention consists in providing a seatcover with means for engaging a retaining member on the front of the seat and to provide a pivoted means at the rear of the seat to engage the rear portion of the seat cover and clamp the same in position.

WVith the above mentioned and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction within the scope of the claims may be resorted to without departing from .the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

To more fully comprehend the invention reference is directed to the accompanying drawings wherein Figural is a View in plan partly in section of a toilet seat with an embodiment of my invention associated therewith. Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view of the seat protector.

Referring more particularly to the several views of the drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts, 1 is a suitable toilet seat of the well known construction and transversely of the underside of the front thereof extends the bar 2 preferably secured to the seat by the screws 3. The end portions of said bar are bent rearwardly providing retaining members 4. 1

A suitable seat protector 5 of substantion 6, and downwardly turned lip portion 7 at the forward end of the cut-out.

Pockets 8 are provided on the underside of the front of the protector 5 and the same are located at the front corners of the pro-' tector to slip over the retaining members 4 when the seat cover is positioned on the seat 1. Transversely of the rear edge of the seat extends the rod 9 pivotally mounted in bearings 10 secured to the upper face of the rear of the seat, the ends of the rod are curved forwardlyas at 11 and are provided with weights l2. Suitable forwardly projecting retaining fingers or arms 13 are rigidly carried by the rod 9 and forced downwardly into contact with the rear edge of the seat cover by'the weights 12 and retain the rear edge of the seat cover in position on the seat.

It will be apparent that the members 4 retain the front portion of the seat cover in position when the pockets thereof are slipped thereover and that the fingers or arms 13 retain the rear edge of the cover in position.

A soiled seat cover may be removed from 'the seat by simply pulling the same forwardly of the seat, so that the rear edge of the seat cover will slide from beneath the fingers or arms 13 and the pockets will be drawn from over the retaining members 4. When it is desired to position a fresh seat cover in position it is only necessary to position the pockets 8 at the front edge thereof on the retaining members 4, raise the retaming rear fingers or arms .13 and slip the rear edge of the protector beneath the same, the fingers when released clamping the rear edge of the'protector in position. i

By my improved construction both the front and rear portions of thekseat protector are retained in position and are prevented from accidental displacement or slipping.

Having thus described my invention what I claim is- 1. In combination with a toilet seat, a protecting cover therefor adapted to be positioned thereon and provided on opposite under corners of its front edge with suitable rearwardly opening pockets, a frame sefor reception in said pockets, a pivotally mounted Weighted bar at the rear of the seat and extending transversely of the upper surface thereof, and forwardly-projecting fingers carried by said bar forengaging on the rear of the protecting cover to clamp the same in position.

2. In combination with a toilet seat, a protecting cover therefor, means for detachably retaining the front portion of said cover in position on said seat, a bar extendi transversely of the rear of the seat and f crumed thereon, a plurality of fingers carried by said bar for engaging the rear edge of said cover to clamp the same to 15 said seat, andg yvei'ghted means associated with said bar for forcing said fingers into contact with said cover.
