To all whom it may concern:
of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Disk Jointer, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention appertains to disk j ointers used for agricultural purposes, and
aims toprovide a novel and improved j ointer attachment for a plowbeam or other suitable support.
It is the object of the invention to provide a disk jointer device of such construction, that the disk may be reversed andadjusted to most effectively serve its office undervarious conditions.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a novel means for mounting-and carrying the cutter disk whereby the same will be supported properly.
Another object ofthe invention is theprovision of a unique meansfor scraping and cleaning the cutter disk, said means being reversible in order that when thedisk is ad justed to reversed positions, the scraping means may also be reversed to operate properly at either position of the disk.
It is also within the scope of the invention to provide a disk j'ointer having the features above noted, and which at the same time, is comparatively simple, non-encumbering and inexpensive in construction, as well as being convenient, practical and efficient in use.
With the foregoing and other objects in viewvwhich will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the vcombination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within'the scopeof what is claimed withoutdei parting from the spirit of the invention.

implement. 'This clarnp 2 embodies a plate 3 resting againstoneside of'the beam B and having bolts 4!: engaged therethrough above and below the beam, and a bar 5 is engaged to the bolts 4 and bears againstthat side of the beam 13 opposite the plate 3.
-Thus, when the bolts 4: are tightened, the
clamp 2 will be securely held in position, upon the beam, it being noted that the clamp may be adjusted orreversed, as desired or necessary. The plate 3 has an upright sleeve '6 upon its outerrside through which the upper end portion of the standard l is fitted for rotary and'sliding adjustments, whereby the standard may be rotated to various angular positions and may be adjusted vertically.
Set screws 7 are carried by the sleeve 6 for engaging the standard 1 to clamp the stand- The lower end portion of the standard is offset at one side, as at 8, the lower offset end portion 8 dependf ing below the beam B. An upright sleeve 9 is slipped upwardly upon the end portion 8 of the standard 1 and is adapted to be adjusted angularly around the end portion 8 of the,
standard, set screws 10 being carried by the sleeve 9 for engaging the standard 1 to clamp the sleeve 9. at any adjustable position. The lower end portion of the sleeve 9 carries the cutter disk 11 which isof concavoconveXed formation, and which has its edge sharpened. The edge of the disk 11 may be serrated, if desired, for preventing the accumulation of trash in front of the disk during the use thereof. In order to carry the disk 11 for rotation by the lower end portion of the sleeve 9, the lower end portion of the sleeve is provided with a lateral socket 12 at one side, and a horizontal tubular bushing sleeve 9 to carrythe disk 11. The flanged end of the bushing 13 has one or more recesses 1a which receive one or more lugs 15 projecting from the sleeve 9 within the socket 12, whereby the bushing 13 is prevented from rotating. The disk 11 has a hub 16 attached to its central portion, and said hub is journaled upon the bushing 13. The end of the hub 16 adjacent the sleeve 9 is received by the socket 12 and bears against the flange 1 1 of the bushing. A cap 17 iS fitted upon the outerend of the hub 16 and bears against the outer end of the bushing 13, and a bolt or clamping element 18 is engaged through the cap 17, bushing 13 and lower end portion of the sleeve 9. A collar 19 is secured upon the bolt 18 and bears against the cap 17 and a nut 20 is threaded upon the bolt 18 and-bears against the sleeve 9 for clamping the bushing 13 tightly in place against the sleeve 9, whereby the disk 11 will be firmly supported for rotary movement. The hub 16 is journaled upon the bushing 13 between the flange 1d of the bushing 13 and the cap 17, and the disk may. rotate freely and without objectionable vibration or play.
The bolt or rod 18 is utilized for carrying the scraping or cleaning means, and to this end, theboltor rod 18 has an angularly eX tendingarm or portion 21. The arm 21 carries the scraper 22, thisscraper embodying a plateformed and bent to provide two wings 23 varranged at an obtuse angle relative to one another and having their remote edges shaped to conform to the concaved face of the disk .11. Strips 24: are secured to the back of the scraper 22 at the median portion thereof between the wings 23, and
the strips 2 1 embrace the ,arm 21 and pro- .vide bearings for journaling or mounting the scraper for swinging movements upon the arm 21. The strips or bearings 2. 1 are disposed'at the ends of the scraper 22, and
nuts 25 are threaded upon the arm 21 and bear against the strips or bearings 24 for clamping the scraper 22 at the position to which is set or swung. The wings or blades 23 of the scraper have tips 26 at those ends remote from the center ofthe disk 11 which project slightly beyond the periphery or margin of the disk and the tips 26 are curved away from the back of the wings 23 to assist in deflecting the dirt or soil to one side. In use, by loosening the set screws 7, the standard 1 may be adjusted angularly and vertically with respect to the plow beam B for properly positioning the standard ac-- cording to the circumstances, and by loosening the set screws 10, the sleeve 9 may be adjusted for properly positioning the disk 11 with respect to the standard. These adjustments enable the disk to be properly positioned "upon .either right or left hand plows, according to the circumstances.
The scraper 22 is properly adjusted in order that the proper wing or blade 23 will be disposed adjacent the concaved face of the disk 11 to cooperate therewith for scraping the dirt from said face of the disk. The arm 21 projects angularly forward and rearward, and is inclined, to hold the scraper 22 in a rearwardly inclined posi- ,tion, and the wing or blade 23 which 00- operates with the disk will be inclined to properly, as will be apparent.
What 1s claimed is:
1. In a device of the characterdescribed, a supporting member, a cutter disk, the supporting member having a portion upon, which said disk is journaled, a member engagedto said portion for rotary adjustment and having an angularly extending arm, and a reversible scraper mounted upon said arm for rotary adjustment and having opposite wings adapted to be brought into cooperation with the disk. In a device of the character described, a supporting member, a cutter disk, the supporting member having a portion upon which the disk is journaled, an angularly extending arm adjustably engaged tosaid por-, tion for attachment to various angles, and a scraper having opposite wings to be brought into cotiperation with the face of the disk, the median portion of the scraper being carried by said arm for angular ad justment, said wings being arranged to be 2 inclined outwardly away from the disk when the wings cooperate with the disk, and those ends of the wings remote from said portion being curved to assist in, defleeting the soil to one side.
