TOOL-HOLDER FOR GBINDSTONES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. *7, I915.
Application filed July 29, 1914. Serial No. 853,997.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, KNUD CHRISTIAN KNUDsnN, a citizen of Denmark, residing at Boise, in the county of Ada and State of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tool-Holders for Grindstones, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in tool holders for grindstones and its object is to produce a device of this class that is adjustable in planes at right angles to each other so that tools of a variety of sizes and shapes may be retained in suitable position for the grinding and sharpening operation to be performed.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described in the following specification, pointed out in the claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part of said specification and in which- Figure l is a plan of my improved tool holder in use in connection with a grind stone. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is an end view. Fig. 4 is a section taken on line 4:4E of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a detail of one adjustable supporting arm used. Fig. 6 is a perspective of the tool holding bracket. Fig. 7 is a View in elevation of the supporting bracket for one arm of the device. Fig. 8 is a View of Fig. 7 in an altered position. Fig. 9 is a view of Fig. 7 in another position.
Like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several news.
The reference numeral 1 designates the frame of a grind stone, 2 the stone and 3 the leaves of the bracket secured to the frame 1; in the sleeve 4. of the bracket the curved arm 5, formed with an eye 6, is adjustably secured. In the eye 6 one end of the shaft 7 is adjustably supported, the oppo-s1te end of said shaft being secured by a bracketS to a vertical rod 9 adjustably disposed in a tubular standard 10 and adapted to be retained in adjusted position through the medium of a set screw 11 carried by said standard. Upon the shaft 7 the tool holding bracket 12 is slidably disposed and adapted to be retained in adjusted position through the medium of the set screw 13 and between the prongs 14, 14: of said bracket the tool 15 is adjustably held by means of the screw 16. It is readily seen that the arm 5 and the rod 9 may be adjusted vertically to move the shaft 7 and tool holding bracket 12 with relation" to the stone 2 and the tool holding bracket .may be moved upon the shaft in a plane at right angles to the plane of movement of said arm and rod.
What is claimed is A tool-holder of the type described, including a bracket adapted for application and attachment to a support, at a corneredge of a member thereof, said bracket also iaving a sleeve equipped with a retaining and an adjusting element, an eye-ended member adjustably held in said sleeve, the eye-ended portion of said member being extended laterally, a vertically slidable and adjustably held member, a pronged bracket, and a supporting rod member received by the eye-ended portion of the member held by said sleeve, said rod member having an eye terminal receiving said vertically slidable and adjustably held member.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
KNUD CHRISTIAN KNUDSEN.
