To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JULIUs G. BonsoHnR,

citizen of the United States, residing at Warrenton, in the county of Warren and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Farm- Wagon Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. My invention relates to new and useful improvements in farm or other extensible wagons for hauling lumber and the like, and has for its primary object to provide an attachment in the form of a frame or body for supporting a spring seat upon the wagon when the wagon has been stripped of its ordinary body for the purpose of hauling lumber.

An object of importance is to provide an attachment of the character described which comprises a small wagon body that is to be mounted between the front standard of the wagon frame and which will support a spring seat in a reliable and efficient manner.

Another and important object, is to provide novel means for attaching the attachment to the wagon that is of simple construc tion and permits an easy and expeditious attachment and detachment of the device.

The above and additional objects are accomplished by such means as are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, described in the following specification and then more particularly pointed out in the claims.

l/Vith reference to the drawings, wherein I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention as it is reduced to practice, and throughout the several viewsof which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts, Figure l is a. side elevation of a part of a lumber wagon showing my improved attachment thereon. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of a wagon with the wheels removed showing my attachment in position. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary enlarged detail perspective View of the means for attaching the attachment to the wagon body or frame, and Fig. i is an enlarged detail top plan view of one of the main elements of the attachment structure.

Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, 1 designates as an entirety a wagon of the extensible lumber carrying type consisting of a front standard 2 of the usual structure, a center adjusting or extensible pole 3 and wheels 4.

My improved attachment comprises a wagon bed or body designated 5 as an entirety and consists of a bottom wall 6 and side walls 7. The bottom wall 6 comprises an elongated metallic frame member 8. The frame 8 consists of a single metallic bar bent at equal distances from its terminals to form parallel side bars or arms 9 and also bent centrally to form a V-shaped extension 10 which is provided at its apex with a series of apertures 11. Transverse bars 12 and. 14; of any suitable character are connectedat their terminals with the parallel side bars or arms 9 at the ends thereof. These transverse bars 12 and 14 support floor boards 13 which also rest upon the bolster that connects the standard 2 of the running gear. The side barsor arms 9 are arranged against the upper faces of the floor board.

The side walls 7 comprise vertical metallic straps 15 secured to the ends of the bars 12 and have mounted thereon side boards 16 which comprise the side walls. Mounted upon the inner face of each side wall 7 adjacent to the upper edge thereof, is a horizontally disposed flange or bead 16. The head 16 is designed to support and have secured thereto the springs 17 of a spring seat of the ordinary character.

Mounted on the outer face of the side wall 7 are loops 19 arranged one above the other and which receive the standards 2 so as to prevent longitudinal movement of the attachment relative to the length of the body.

Pivoted by means of L-shaped supporting and connecting bars 20 to the forward portion of the frame or attachment 5 is a supporting board or foot rest 21 that is secured by suitable fastening elements to one arm portion of the members 20 and arranged so as to be swung to a point adjacent the seat so as not to interfere with supporting brackets 22. The supporting brackets 22 which extend outwardly and upwardly are secured to the forward edges of the side walls 7 and arranged to engage the foot rest 21 when said foot rest is in down position so as to support the foot rest. The supports 20 are pivoted as at 23 to the side walls 7 at a pointadjacent to the upper edges of the side wall.

The V- shaped extension 10 on the frame 8 extends toward the rear end of the wagon and at a point centrally of its ends is secured to a cylindrical upstanding supporting member 24, which supporting member is secured to the pole 3 and has extended entirely therethrough and the pole 3, a bolt25. A nut 26 1 is turned on the lower end of the bolt. The

bolt 25 is inserted through the V-shaped ex 7 27 are secured by the bolt 25 and nut 26 thereon at their lower ends to the pole 3 and at their upper ends are secured to the extension 10 at points on opposite sides of the apex end of the extension.

I It will be readily seen with reference to the foregoing description and accompanying drawings, that I have provided an attachment for wagons that may be easily attached and will serve to support the spring seat in reliable manner, as well as to pr0- vide a supporting area for loads of various sizes.

In practice, I have found that the form of my invention, illustrated in the drawings and referred to in the above description, as the preferred embodiment, isthe most eflicient and practical; yet realizing that the conditions concurrent with the adoption of my device will necessarily vary, I desire to emphasize the fact, that various minor changes in details of construction, proportion and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, when required, without sacrificing tively short wagon body comprising bottom and side walls mounted intermediate its ends upon said bolster and means to secure the body to the centerpole.

An attachment for wagons comprising a bottom and an elongated frame consisting of a single metallic bar bent to form parallel side portions and a V-shaped extension connecting the said side portions, said side portions being secured to the said bottom and means for securing the V-shaped extension to the running gear of a wagon.
