PHONOGRAPH.
APPLICATION FILED MAR.29.1915.
Patented Nov. 30, 1915. I
UNETED TATES PATENT @FFEQE CHARLES AGNER, JR., F PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
Patented lvwjso, 1915.
PHONOGRAPH. 22 Specification of Let tors I'atent.
H Applicationfiled lfiarch Serial No. 17,783. To (LZYZ whom 922a Be'it known that I, CHARLES AGNER, J r.,
i a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Phonograp-hs, of which thefollowing is a specification. Y
My invention relates to improvements in phonographs, and more particularly to an improved illuminating attachment designed for use on any ordinary construction of talkmg machine, and which is adapted to illumi nate the record when the cover is open.
A further object is to provide an electric lamp removably connected to the goose neck of a talking machine, and connected in circuit with a battery or source of electricity including a pair ,of contacts which a are separated by the closing of the cover of the phonograph,- and which arepermitted to come together to close the circuit when the cover is elevated, so that the disk is illumi nated only at such time as the cover is ele-, vated', so that there is no waste ofrlectric current.
\Vith these and other objects in view,-t h e invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations andan rangements of parts as Will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out. in the claim.
In the accompanying'drawings: Figure 1 is a view partly in elevation and partly in 9 section illustrating my improved attachment 'in connection with'an ordinary type of talk-- trating my improved lamp in p ositionzon the goose neck of the talking machine, and Fig. 3 is a view in section {J11 the line 3-3' of Fig. 2.
1 represents the casing of an ordinary talking machine having a turn table 2.sup-
porting a record disk 3.
4 is-the ordinary sound box' having the tric lamp which constitutes a reflector 9 secured to a'socket l0, and the latter having a split clamp 11, seeured around the goose fleck 6i? means of a bolt 12 and nut 13.
An ordinaryincandescent globe 14 is located in the reflector, and secured 1n the closed, but allow them to move together when the cover is opened.
The contacts 20 and 21 are preferably of spring metal,- so that they move together when the cover is opened, while the pin 23 forces them apart 'whenever the. cover is closed.
It will therefore be noted that when the cover of the talking machine is opened, the circuit will be closed, so that the disk 3 will be illuminated, and the operator can readily find the groove therein to position the needle 5,"when the cover closes the circuit, so that there is no waste of electric current.
It will be noted that I have positioned the lamp at an incline, so that its rays of light are thrown directly down upon the record disk, and hence a very small lamp may be utilized to-efficiently carry out the'f'unctions intended, and hence a small amount of current is needed for the work. i
As the lampis carried by the goose neck 6: it will be raised and lowered aslthe goose neck is moved, and will not interfere in any way With the ordinary operation of the flmachine. ing machine. ig. 2 is a top plan'view illus- -Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement-of parts described without depart ng from my inventions as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claim,
I Having thusdescr'ibed my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by- Letters Patent is: i
The combination With atalking machine having .a pivoted tone arm, a goose neck pivotally connected to the tone arm, and a sound box at the free end of the goose neck, of a clampsecured around the goose neck, a lamp socket secured to the clamp, said socket having a lamp in its forward enoi and a binding post on its rear end, a reflector on the socket around the lamp, a binding post on the clamp, electric wires connectea to the bindname to this Specification in the presence of ing posts,. and connected witha' source of two subscribing witnesses.
electricity zind an electric. switch controlling the circuit to the lamp, and acover on the CHARLES AGNER J 5 talking machine operating said switch, sub- Witnesses:
stantially as described. MARIE JACKSON,
""In testimonyuyhereof I have signed my CHAS. E. Po'ms.
