To all whom it may concern Be it known/that I, BERNARD BENEDLCT,
a citiz'en of the United States, and a resi l. dent ofthe Broun, New York, in the-county The invention pertains more particularly to the class of4 portable electric lights com# monly called lanterns, the exterior shell or casing of the article being provided with a suitable handle or suitable handles whereby the lantern may be xconveniently carried.
The object of the invention is to produce veniently manufactured and carried and which shall be reliable in use.'

In the recess 29 of the disk or layer 25 is an exposed head ot' a screw 35, said screw eX- tending downwardly through the layer or disk 26 and having connected with it the metal terminal at one end ot vthe conductor 3G, a nut, as shown -in Fig. 2, serving to bind said terminal upon said screw 35. In a portable electric light an exterior casing having a body-portion and a coverportion carrying the lamp, one terminal of which is in electrical Vconnection With said cover-portion, a battery within said bodyportion and normally out of circuit and having exposed pole contacts, means electrically connecting the negative pole contact of the battery with said cover-portions, contact parts carried by and insulated from said cover-portion and from each other and respectively electrically connected with the other terminal ot' the lamp and the carbon pole of the battery, and a circuit closer carried by said cover-portion and manually operable to connect said contact parts, for completing the circuit, said cover-portion being hinged to said body-portion and said bodyportion having a hinged right-angular plate one member of which is engaged with the negative pole contact of the battery and the other member of which is engaged with said cover-portion.
