` Attprneys UNITED SMTESPATENIORFICE- To ZZ vwlwmz't may concern ppiicaaon inea June 2s Beit known that we, Canina F.. Stammes and CHARLES. B. Linnen', citizens of the United States, residing at Wichita, in the county of Sedgwick, State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Acetylene-Gas Tanlnofwhich the following is a specification.l y
The present invention relates to improvements in frostprotecting means for acetylenegas generators, one object of the invent-ion being the provision of a protector for the generator. whereby the water therein and also `the condensation from the gas will be protected from freezing. thus permitting the installation of the present generator at a' point exteriorly of the house and at a safe distance therefrom.
A. further objectof the present invention is the provision of a protecting casing or covering for the acetylene generator. 'in which the outer surface is weather resisting, the portion adjacent to the generator containing a heat insulating material. so that the heat within the generator will be retained and the cold on the outside prevented from affecting the water or the condensation from the gas within the generator.
lith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds. the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the'precise embodiment of the invention -herein disclosed can be made within the scope of. what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings is illustrated a vertical central sectional view through the protecting means showing one form of acetylene gas generator used in connection therewith.
Referring to the drawings. the numeral l designates the outer metallic easing which is mounted on a base 5 above or below the surface of the ground and forms with the concentric inner casing or cylinder preferably made of metal. a circular receptacle for the insulating material T, such as mineral wool or asbestos. the upper end of said space between the casing being closed by means of a ring l. preferably made of concrete or other plastic material.
Mounted within the cylinder 2 in the present instance. is the acetylene gasgenerator G. the same heilig indicative of any form of stnltvneaii` AND! CHARLES BQLARMON, loifWIfHI'r'A.` KANSAS.

. 1911.- .serial .Na 357.74.
` generator that can be utilized in a protecting structure as herein set forth.
Surrounding the outer metal casing l and resting upon the base' 5. which also consti'- tutes a support-for the metal casings l and Q anda bottom for the annular space therebetween which holds the insulating material T. `is the cylindrical concrete member 1. the same extending above the upper rim or edge of the cylinder l and havingr its upper face inclined on the same angle as the inclined upper face of the-ring J.. so that 'any water falling thereupon will b'e properly drained away from the device.
Mounted at the upper endof the cylinder 2. whose rim extends at a point adjacent to the extreme upper end of the rim l. is the cover 2G. which is a hollow' cover and contains the insulating material which is similar to the material T and thereby inclosing the compartment formed bv the cylinder 2 so as to exclude the Aell'ect of the cold and surrounding atmosphere from the acetylene gas `generator. and to also. retain the heat therewithin formed by the generation of the gas as the carbid falls intoV the water.
The protector for acetylene gasl generators herein disclosed. comprises. briefly considered. a base 5 on which rests an outer cylinder l and an inner metal cylinder L. the inner c vlinder 2 being ot' greater height than "l`he outer cylinder l is provided at its top with an outwardly projecting flange 100. r1`he concrete cas-ing t3 surrounds' the outer cylinder l and is extended upwardly above the outer cylinder to a point adjacent the upper edge.ol the inner c vlinder i. the casing being laterally Offset as shown at 101 to extend beneath the flange llltl. The concrete ring -l extends between the casing t and the inner cylinder :2. the ring being oll'set horizontally as shown at 102 to overhang the llange 10U. andbeing downwardly otl'set as .shown at 1o., to extend between the ' cylinders 1 and 2. A reinforcing band lHlV lies between the ring l and the casing t'. the band having a proiection 105 extended into the ring. 'lhe band itil is in lateral` abutment with the [lange 1oo as shown at ltlt'. and thc lower edge IUT ot' the band is embedded in the laterally ofi'- Sct pollioll lill nl' the casing (i. A heat inslilating packing T is located in tht` compartment defined by the base 5. the ring -l. and the cylinders l and 3.
l^`rom the foregoing description, it ..5 evi- Hifi upon a connyarativel)v large scale for use as a inain heating plant for a suburban or countr)v house, and as the saine can be placed. in an isolated position awa7 from the house and out buildings', and lexposed to the out-.
side atmosphere, the gas will be properly generated for distribution and at'the Vsaine timel` the contents ofl the generator will be protected against the elements.
That is claimed is:
A protector for an acetylene gas t0'1,.eo1nprising abase; an outer inetal cylinder resting on the base; an inner inetal cylinder resting'on the base and of greater height than the outer cylinder; an annular flange projectingoutwardly 'from the outer cylinder atits top; a. concrete casing sur,- rounding the outer cylinder and extended upwardly above the outer cylinder to a point adjacent ltheupper edge of the-inner cylingenera! der, the casing being laterally offset to 'eX- tend beneath the flange; a concrete ring eX- tendedbetween the casing and the inner cylinderr` the ring being offset horizontally to overhang` the flange, and beingdownwardly offset to extend between the cylinders; a ref inforcing band lyingl between the ring and` the casing, the-band having a 'projection extended into the ring, thefband lying in lateral .abutment with the flange and having its lower edge embedded in the laterally offset portion of the casing; and a heat insulating packing located in the compartment defined bythe base, the ring and the cylinders. A
In testiinomT that we claim the foregoing as our own, we have hereto affixed our Vsignatures in the presence of two witnesses. CALEB SUMMERS. CHAS. B. LARMON.
