STERLING I-I. CAMPBELL, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO RAILWAY DEVICES COMPANY, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, A CORPORATION OF MISSOURI.
ANGLE-COCK HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented N ov. 30, 1915.
Application filed December 3, 1914. Serial No. 875,308.
' skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part ofthis specification.
My invention relates to an angle cock holder and has for its object the production of a holder which will be simple in construction and effective in operation and which may be ,pivotally moved to disengage the angle cock without being removed from the car.
A further object of my invention is to so construct my holder that it may be applied to a part of the car which is not perpendicular to the axis of the train pipe.
In the accompanving drawings, which illustrate one form of angle. cock holder made in accordance with my invention, Figure 1 is a front view; Fig. 2 is a plan view, showing the end sill of the car in section; Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2, the angle cock and train pipe being omitted; Fig. 4C is a detail view of the upper portion of the holder; Fig. 5 is a detail view of the lower portion of the holder, and Fig. 6 is a front view of the parts shown in Fig. 2.
Like marks of reference refer to similar parts in the several views of the drawings.
10 represents the end sill of a car, through the opening in which passes the train pipe 11, to which is attached the angle cock 12. This angle cook 12 is of the type known as self-locking and hasa handle 13,the rear end of which is pivoted at it;
The holder consists of two parts 15 which are shown in detail in Figs. 4 and 5. The two parts 15 are exactly alike but are turned in opposite positions, as shown in Figs. at and 5. Each of the "parts 15 is provided with an end 16 which is flush with the body portion thereof and is provided with a bolt hole 17. The opposite end is provided with an off-set 18 adapted to receive the end 16' of the other member. This end 18 is provided with a bolt hole 19. The part 15 is provided with a projection or wedge 20 direction.
adapted to embrace substantially one-half of the head 21 of the angle cook. The two parts 20, together, form a casing or housing for the head of the angle cock and each of the parts 20 is provided with a flange 22 adapted to project in front of the head 21 of the angle cock and thus prevent its removal from the train pipe in a longitudinal The parts 20, of course, effect vely, prevent the rotation of the angle cock. Thetwo members 15 are held in position on a suitable base plate. a
In the form of holder shown in the draw ings, the end sill 10 of the car forms the base plate. The parts are held in'position by means of bolts 24 and 25. It willbe evident that, by removing one of the bolts, the twoends held thereby can be separated, the Parts turning upon the remaining bolt as a pivot, and the angle cock can be removed without detaching the holder from the car.
In some instances, the end sill 10 is not perpendicular to the axis of the train pipe. Such a construction is shown in Fig. 2. In order to maintain the holder in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the train pipe, I provide a spacing block 26 which spacing block is provided with a slot 27 adapted to receive the ends 16 and 18, as shown in Fig. 2. This spacing block is provided with holes for the passage of the bolts 25. By properly forming this spacing block 26, the holder may be applied to an end sill or other part of a car which is at an angle to theaxis of the train pipe. The housing 20'is cut away, as shown at 28, to allow the passage of the pivoted end 14 of the handle 13.
' Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent of the United States is:
1. In an angle cock holder, the combination with a base plate, of a pair of members, each pivoted to said base plate at one end, said members being adapted to engage the head of an angle cock and prevent its rotation, and means passing through said mom bersand base plate for securing the other ends of said members in position.
2. In an angle cock holder, the combination with a base plate, of a pair of members, each pivoted to said base plate at oneend,
said members forming a housing adapted to llO for securing the other ends of said members in position.
3. In an angle cock holder, the combination with a base plate, of a pair of members, each pivoted to said base plate at one end, said members being adapted to engage the head of an angle cock and prevent its rotation, means passing through said members and base plate for securing the other ends of said members in position, and means for spacing said latter named ends from-said base plate.
4. In an angle cock holder, the combination with a base plate, of a pair of members, each pivoted to said base plate at one end, said members forming a housing adapted to receive the head of an angle cock and hold the same against rotation, means passing through said members and base plate for securing the other ends of said members in position, and means for spacing said latter named ends from said base plate.
5. In an angle cock holder, the combination With a base plate, of a pair of members, a bolt passing through one end of each of said members and through the base plate, said members being adapted to engage the head of an angle cock and prevent its rotation, and a bolt passing through the other ends of said members and through the base plate.
6. In an angle cock holder, the combination with a base plate, of a pair of members, a bolt passing through one end of each of said members and through the base plate, said members being adapted to engage the head of an angle cock to prevent its rotation, a spacing piece interposed between the other ends of said members and the base plate, and a bolt passing through said latter named ends and through the spacing block and the base plate, said spacing block forming a seat parallel With the adjacent portion of the base plate.
7; In an angle cock hold-er, the combination with a base plate,of a pair of members, each provided with a portion adapted to form part of a housing to receive the head of an angle cock and prevent its rotation, each of said members having one end off set to receive one end of the other member, and means for securing the ends of said members in position.
8. In an angle cock holder, the combination with a base plate, of a pair of members, each provided with a portion adapted to form part of a housing to receive the head of an angle cock and prevent its rotation, each of said members having one end off set to receive one end of the other member, and bolts passing through the ends of said members and through said base plate.
9- n an angle cock holder, the combination With a base plate, of a pair of members, a bolt passing through one end of each of said members and through the base plate, said members being adapted to engage the head of an angle cock and prevent its rotation, a spacing block provided with a slot for receiving the other ends of said members, and a bolt passing through said latter named ends and through the spacing block and the base plate.
1 0. In an angle cock holder, the combination With a base plate, of a pair of members, a bolt passing through one end. of each of said members and through the base plate, said members forming a housing adapted to receive the head of an angle cock and hold the same against rotation and against forward movement, a spacing piece interposed between the other ends of said members and said base plate, and a. bolt passing through said latte-r named ends and through said spacing piece and base plate, said spacing block forming a sea-t parallel with the adjacent portion of the base plate.
11. In an angle cock holder, the combination With a base plate, of a pair of members, a bolt passing through one end of each of said members forming a housing adapted to receive the head of an angle cock and hold the same against rotation, said housing being provided with a recess for the passage of the end of the angle cock handle, and a bolt passing through the other end of said members and said base plate.
12. In an angle cock holder, the combination with a base plate having its surface disposed in two planes arranged at an angle to each other, of a pair of cooperating members adapted to hold an angle cook, a bolt passing through one end of each of said members and the base plate, a spacing piece having a slot adapted to receive the other ends of said members, said spacing piece having a pair of parallel faces arranged at an angle to said slot, and a bolt passing through said spacing piece and the ends of said members.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and afiixed my seal in the presence of the two subscribing Witnesses.
