Be it known that l, Ln ROY VILLOUR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ashland, in the county of Ashland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Jacks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in lifting ja ks, which have become known to the trade as tire savers.
An important object of the invention is to provide a liftingjack of the above mentioned character, which 1s strong, and 'has the operating parts thereof assembled in a compact manner.
A further object of the invention is to provide a lifting jack :of the above mentionedl character, having means whereby the' lift-V bar may be manually adjusted into engagementwith the load, prior to the same being mechanically raised.
A further object of the invention is to pro` vide novel andvsimple means to effect the "longitudinal movement of the lift-bar `or lift-member. f
A further objectfof the invention is to provide novel and simple means for permanently retainingthe parts of thejack assembled. i f

Having slidable engagement with the up-` per portion'of the standard 1.0 is a liftmember or casing 20,' which is preferably hollow to receive the standard. This lift-member is provided preferably near its upper end with outwardly bulgingl transverse pockets 21, which are preferably vertically inclined and afford preferably vertically inclined transverse tracks or franges preferably arranged upon the interior of the liftmem ber or casing. The rollers 19 included in the shifting members operate within the pockets 21 and engage the tracks or flanges 22, and when `the lift-member is in the upper position and the operating handle 1e in the lower position, the rollers 19 enter prefer-y ably curved recesses 23, at the rear ends of the tracks 22, whereby these parts are locked in the active position so that they cannot be disturbed by pressure tending to move the lift-member or casing 20 downwardly.
