Means is provided for lifting and lowering the pressure plate 21 relative to thebase wall of the box-like base I to extend and retract the spurs 28 relative to the openings 29. This means comprises a cam shaft 30 which is rotatively extended laterally through the box-like base I0 and which is provided at its center with a cam 3l.
This cam 3l is extended through complef mentary cam shaped openings 32 formed in ver# tical walls 33 which extendfrom the top face4 or the pressure plate 21. Rotations of the cam shaft 30 will be transmitted to the cam 3l and due to its extension through the cam shaped openings 32 it will 'cause the pressure plate 21 to be lifted and lowered. p
One end of the cam `shaft 30 is extended from the box-like base I0 and has a pivoting lever 34 xedly attached thereto. `This pivoting lever 34 is provided at its free end with a foot pedal 35 which is adapted to be stepped upon for applying pressure theretoto cause the cam shaft. 3l]` to return and extend the'spurs 28 from` the position and the spurswill be projected from the base thereof.
The manner of using the stevedore jack, according to this invention, is as follows:
The box-like baselll together with its superstructure Il is rested `upon the surface of a floor adjacent an objectto be lifted and the lever 34 is pivoted to movethe pressure plate 21 downe wards'within the box-like base I0. This will extend the spursl 28v from `the bottom of the boxlike base l0 and dig them into the surface to retain the base against moving'relative to the oor surface. The crowbar I9 then has its trunnion elements 26 engaged with a given pair of` fulcrum sockets I1 at the desired elevation and the flattened nose 2l thereof is engaged beneath the article to be lifted. The crowbar I9 is then pivoted about the trunnion elements 26 through the medium of the bars 22 and 24 to cause the article to be lifted to the desired elevation to permit a dolly or other similar caster element to be, engaged beneathvthe object sothat it may be moved about.
While` wehaver illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of our invention, it is to be understood that we do not limit ourselves to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifica- Y tions coming within the scope of the invention as dened in the appended claims.

A stevedore' jack, comprising abox-like base, a superstructure mounted on said base and having a pair of laterally spaced vertical walls with several pairs of -fulcrumy sockets at different elevations, a crowbar-provided with a trunnion for engaging a pair of said fulcrum sockets, a pressure plate Within said base and provided with spurs for projecting from apertures in the bottom wall of said base, and a cam shaft with a cam for raising and lowering said pressure plate. y f

A stevedore jack, comprising dbox-like base, a superstructure mounted on said base and having a pair of laterally spaced vertical walls with several pairs of fulcrum sockets at different elevations, a crowbar lprovided with a truny nion for engaging apair of said fulcrum sockets, a pressure plate Within said base and provided with spurs forprojecting from apertures in the bottom'wall of said base, and a cam shaft with a cam for raising and lowering said pressure plate, said superstructure beingcharacterized by a bottom plate closing the top of the box-like'base and said vertical walls being extended from said plate. c l
