g gig specification Application filed. Cicteber 9, Serial Ho. 565,828,
To all whom mag concern Be it known that l, Gnonen HILL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of May etta, in the county of Jackson and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful lin pro" .'einents in Vehicle-Seats, of which the following is a specification,
My invention relates o vehicle seats, and pertains more particularly to the risers or supporting side frames of such seats.
The object of my invention is to produce a metallic riser for vehicle seats capable of economical construction, and adapted to embrace the top edge of the vehicle body on it is carried and reinforce same throiiighout the entire lengthot the riser.
Another object thereof is to produce a seat riser provided with laterally extending flanges at the top thereof to which the seat is secured and adapted to sustain the seat and body frame from lateral pressure.
A further object thereof is to provide a longitudinal. depending flange on each side of the loweredge of the riser adapted to em.- brace both. edges elf-and reinforce the sides of the vehicle body, and a still further object of my invention is to produce a more simple, cheap and eiiicient riser for vehicle seats than t 2 heretofore been attained.
to these ends, my invention includes the combination and arrangement ot component parts to be hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings in which like reference characters indicate similar parts, Figure 1 is a perspective; viewoi a vehicle seat embodying my seat riser; Fig; 2 is a side elevation of my seatriser; Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of the same taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional View eta modified. form thereof.
Referring to said drawings, 1 designates the frame of my riser, which is preferably made of sheet metal such as soft rolled steel, adapted to be pressed or stamped into the form shown. At the top ,edge thereof are provided oppositely extending lateral horirental flanges 2 and 3 on which the seat may be screwed or bolted through the oritices 1-.
As shown in the drawings, the upper ends of each plate are bent outwardly'to form the flanges 52 and 3, while the lower end of the outer plate Z; is bent to form a looped flange 5-by which is provided a continuous groove or seat 6 to *eceive the top edge of the side of the vehicle body throughout the entirelength of the riser, The inner plate 0 is bent laterally theopposite direction adjacent to its lower end to form the horizontal flange 6 adapted to rest on the shoulder 7 0n the inner face of the side of the vehicle body, to which it may be secured by the pivoted clamp 8.
In the modified form of my invention, shown in Fig. i of the drawings, the inner plate 0 is extended to the floor of the vehicle on which the lateral flange 6 rests and to which it may be secured by screws or bolts passing through orifices therein. The construction of my seat riser thus affords a continuous support and reinforcement to the V sides of the vehicle body throughout the length of the side plates thereof by reason of its embracing the edges thereof, and through the rigid structure of the seat resulting from the laterally extending flanges on both sides of the side plate to which the seat proper is secured,
Having thus described my invention, what claim as new and desire to be secured by Letters Patent, is s in A. iser for vehicle sea-ts, comprising-a vertical metal plate, laterally extending flanges at its top edge, a longitudinal groove in its lower edge ada ited to fit on the top of a vehicle body, a laterally extending flange on said lower edge adapted to rest upon a shoulder on the side of a vehicle body, and means for securing same in position, substantially as described.
2. A riser for vehicle seats, comprising a side frame made of two metal plates clampedtogether, the upper ends of said plates being turned outwardly to form oppositely extending lateral flanges on which the seat is Secured} the lower end of the outenframe plube belng bent to form a looped flange forming a, continuous longitudinal groove to fit upon the top edge of a. vehicle body, the lower end of the inner frame plate being bent laterally to form a horizontal flange to rest on the vehicle body; and means for securing same in position, substantially as descrlbed.
GEORGE HILL.
