Be it known that I, ANDREW ject of the King of Great Britain. residing in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, whose postoffice address is l5 Osbornevroad; Newcastleupon-Tyne, in the county of Northumber land, England,) have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Burners for Liquid Fuel, of which the following is a specification. l
This invention relates to liquid fuel burners for steamv boiler and other furnaces, of the kind whereinthe oil or other liquid fuel is sprayed or atomized by steam, the oil and steam being injected under pressure through two co-aXial nozzles both delivering to an annular space encircling the steam nozzle, the construction and relation of the `nozzles and the annular space being such and outwardly inclined that the oil is projected in an annular sheet into this space while the'steam is directed across the space preferably ina forwardly direction so as to impinge upon the sheet of oil (already more or less broken up by its passage through the oil nozzle) while still more or less confined within the annular space, the impact of the converging sheets or streams 4of oil and steam completing the spraying or atomizing of the oil which is delivered to the furnace in a diffused ring of mist or spray.
This invention consists in improved construction and arrangements of parts according to which the inner or steam nozzle is in the form of a ring of separate nozzles. The aperture of the oil .outlet or nozzle formed between the oute'r casing and the fiared end of the steam supply tube is of annular character and is preferably adjustable in the known manner by the longitudinal displacement of the steam supply tube by means of a hand-wheel at the rear of the burner.
The improved construction is more specifically described with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure l is an elevation and Fig. 2 an end view .of a.burner embodying the present invention; Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the same; Fig. 4 is an elevation of part of the burner, and Fig. 5 an end view n of the same; Fig. 6 is a longitudinal seeparts in opposite directions from chamber Specification o-f Letters Patent.

Having thus described the nature of my said invention andthe best means I know of carrying the same into practical effect, I claim y 1. In a liquidburner, the-combination of an outer tubular inclosing-member or casing provided With an oil supply inlet port and having a cylindrically bored rear partl and a conically bored front part, a colaXially arranged inner tubular memberhaving an outwardly Haring trout part projecting into the said conically bored part and forming therewith an annular passage, a steam inlet connect-ion attached to the inner tubular member, the latter member formingl with the said cylindrically bored part an oil channel having an outlet adapted to dlscharge oil into the said annular passage, and
a cap removably attached to, the front end ot' the inner tubular member and forming therewith a nozzle comprising a` series ot' annularly disposed jet .orifices adapted to discharge steam into said passage in advance of said outlet, substantially as described.
