OTTO HEUBACH, OF ESSEN-ON-TI-IE-RUHR, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO FRIED. KRUPP AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT, 0F ESSEN-ON-THE-RUHR, GERMANY.
AMMUNITION-VEHICLE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTTO HEUBACH, residing at Essen-on-the-Ruhr, Germany, a citizen of the German Empire, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Ammunition-Vehicles, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to ammunition vehicles, provided with a door for the vehicle chest, which door may be utilized as a protecting shield.
The invention relates to a special device, which makes it possible to use a part of the door for covering the gap between the gun carriage and the ammunition vehicle, independent of whether the ammunition vehicle is placed to the right or the left of the gun carriage.
One embodiment is illustrated in the accompanying drawing Where Figure 1 shows a rear view of the ammu: nition vehicle with the door closed; Fig. 2, a. portion of the top plan view of Fig. l and Fig. 3, a View similar to Fig. 2 with the door open.
The vehicle chest A intended for carrying ammunition and connected with the axle tree 0 by means of the girders B, Fig. 1, is provided, at the rear, with a door constructed with three leaves D D D The side leaves D D of this door are connected with the side walls of the vehicle chest A by means of hinges E. The central door leaf D is, on each of its two long sides provided with two pairs of eyelets F and F Between the eyelets of each of said pair of eyelets an eyelet G or G respectively, attached respectively to the side leaves D and D is intended to enter. Key bolts H and H serve to connect the eyelets F F with the eyelets G G The eyelets F F together with the eyelets G G and the key bolts H H consequently form hinges which are easy to disconnect.
hen the door of the vehicle chest is closed, its leaves take the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2, where they are connected by the key bolts H and H If now the ammunition has to be taken out from the ammunition vehicle positioned near the gun carriage to which it belongs then its door is first Specification of Letters Patent.

opened. Should the ammunition vehicle stand to the left of the gun carriage, the key bolts H are removed and the door leaves D D swing out into the position illustrated in Fig. 3. The door leaf D is swung out relative to the door leaf D into the position indicated by full lines in Fig. 3. In this position, the door leaf D increases the space covered by the vehicle chest A and the door leaves D D in such a manner that the gap between ammunition vehicle and the gun carriage is closed. Should, however, the ammunition vehicle stand to the right of its gun carriage the key bolts H are instead removed in order to open the vehicle door, and the door leaf D is swung relative to the door leaf D into the position indicated by dot and dash lines in Fig. 3. -r
How to close the door needs no further explanation after the above given description.
I claim 1. An ammunition vehicle having a closing door, said door comprising a central leaf and two side leaves, the side leaves being hinged on the chest of the vehicle, so as to open outwardly and said central leaf being suspended on each of said leaves by easily detachable hinges, whereby said central leaf may be detached from one of said leaves to open the door, while, still hinged to the other leaf, thus extending beyond the side of the vehficle when swung out with said second lea 2. An ammunition vehicle having a closing door, said door comprising a central leaf and two side leaves, the side leaves being hinged on the chest of the vehicle so as to open outwardly, means for attaching said central leaf to each of said side leaves, whereby on opening said attaching means between the central leaf and one of said side leaves, said central leaf will partake of the outward swinging of the second leaf on the door being opened.
3. An ammunition vehicle having a closing door, said door comprising a central leaf and two side leaves, the side leaves being hinged on the chest of the vehicle so as to open outwardly, means for attaching said central leaf to each of said side leaves, said means comprising eyelets on said central leaf, corresponding eyelets on each of the side leaves and removable key bolts for connecting the corresponding eyelets, whereby on removing said key bolts on one side, the central leaf may besWung out With the side leaf on the other side so as to extend beyond the side of the vehicle.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing; the Commissioner of Patents;
The foregoing specification signed at Barrnen, Germany, this 22nd day of January,
OTTO HEUBACH. [L.s.] In presence of i ALBERT NUFER, HELEN NUFER.
