W. R. BUXTON. COLLAR CONTAINER. APPLICATION FILED APR. 30. 1914.
Patented Nov. 9, 1915.

WARNER R. BUXTON, SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
COLLAR-CONTAINER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filled April 30, 1914. i Serial No. 835,427.
a container for collars and similar articles which may be readily shaped by the user to the desired form and size for the number of collars to be carried.
Another object of the invention is to provide in such a container for collars, a stiil'- Y ening or reinforcing belt to preserve the shape of theV collars and act as a protective member therefor.
Another object of the invention is to provide a collar retainer which, when not in use, can be rolled into compact form thereby occupying a minimum amount of space.
Another object of the invention is to combine in a collar container, a device whereby ties may be conveniently carried and kept pressed by the coperationA with parts of the collar container.
In general my device comprises a flat flexible member provided at its central `zone with a stiffening strip. This member is designed to be adjusted to the desired circular size by means of the snap buttons at each side, one end closed by the draw-string, the collars inserted, and then the other end closed by its draw-string, thus forming a most compact article for traveling. On the interior of the flexible member, 1 preferably provide a compartment for scarfs or ties, which comprises flaps foldable in overlapping relation over the ties, thereby keeping them in shape and free from dust.
In the one embodimentof my invention, which l have chosen to illustrate in the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a developed view of the interior of my container; Fig. is a. developed view of the exterior thereof; Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2 and looking in the direction of the arrows; Fig. l is a view on a reduced scale showing the container hung upon the wall to display the Patented. Nov. 9, 19,15.
ties; Fig. 5 is a view showing the container wrapped around a number of collars and ready for packing or transportation.
Referring to the drawings, 1 is a fiat strip of flexible material, such as leather, for example, which is cut to the shape shown vin Illes. 1 and 2 Fastened to the strio 1 b any suitable means is a stiening piece 5 preferably slightly greater in width than the height of a collar. ri`his piece isapplied to the member 1 at the central zonethereof and forms an adequate protective belt for the collars. The strip 1 and stiffening piece 5 are covered by a lining strip- 2 of silk or other material which adds to the attractiveness of the container.v Fastened to the flexible member 1 and the stiffening piece 5 near one end thereof are several' pairs of male portions of spring or snap buttons Y, each' pair distaneed from the other in a longitudlnal direction. At the other end of the container are fastened a pairof female portions of snap buttons 6 which areadapted toA engage with any pair of the buttons 7.
The flexible strip 1 is in effect a wrapper reinforced for stiii'ening and protective pur-V poses bythe memberv 5; This wrapper 1s preferably rolled into the shape shown in Fig. 5 and held'by they buttons 6 and 7. Thus a container of the desired diameter is formed with tubular extensions on each side thereof. Near each side edge of the flexible lWrapper-1 are the draw-,strings 3 'and et. rThe latter are threaded in andout' through holes in the flexible wrapper l in a well-known way. |These strings 3 and 4 do not, however, pass through the lining 2 but are concealed thereby, as shown in Fig. 1.
By one of these draw-strings 3 or ,onerend of the container is closed, the collars inserted, and then the other end is closed. The extensions may be held contracted or closed by tying the strings 3 and 4. On the outside lof 'the bag, I preferably provide a pocket 13 toV contain buttons, studs, and the like.
A tie compartment is preferably formed on the interior of the flexible strip 1 by the wings or aps 9 and` l0. These flaps 9 and 10 are fastened to member 1 adjacent vthe sides of member 5, and are adapted to be folded in overlapping relation and secured by snap buttonsll. Inside the flaps 9 and 10 and fastened to the protective strip 5 near one end thereof is a flexible strip 12. This strip 12 is fastened at itsmiddle portion, and the ends thereof may be held by a snap button to form a loop through which the ties may be passed.
When the container is open, it may be hung from the Wall by the ring 8 which is secured 'to the flexible member l in any suitable manner. vl/hen the device is thus used to display the neclrwear, the loop 12 forms a support for the ties. By this structure and arrangement, the ties may Je protected by the collar bag when carrying collars and. rendered easily accessible at all times.
rlhus, l have provided a collar bag` or the lilrel of an improved lrind adjustable to the desired size and arranged When not in use to take ccondensed form.
It is understood that many changes and modifications may be made to my device lWithout departing from the scope of my invention Which is more truly defined in the appended claims.
What l claim isl. A container for collars and the like, comprising in combination, a flexible Wrapper, a longitudinal stifi'ening member therefor, iiaps on the interior of said Wrapper, arranged to be folded in overlapping relation over a number of necities and to be backed up by said stiffening member, said Wrapper adapted to be rolled longitudinally into a container of desired diameter for a number of collars leaving tubular end extensions on each end thereof, de- Vices to fasten the ends of the Wrapperin overlapping relation, said devices being arrangedto permit adjustment of the diameter of the container as desired, together with means to contract and hold the top and bottom ends of said tubular extensions, as desired.
2. A container for collars and the like, comprising in combination, a flexible Wrap# per, longitudinal stiening member therefor, flaps on the interior of said Wrapper, aV loop on the interior of said Wrapper through, which a number of ties may be passed, 'sa-id flaps adapted to be folded in overlapping relation over the ties and to be backed up by the stiffening member, said Wrapper adapted to be rolled longitudinally into a container of desired diameter for a number of collars leavingtubular end ex tensions on each end thereof, devices to fasten the ends of the Wrapper in overlappingk which a number of ties may be passed, said flaps. adapted. to be folded in overlapping relation over the ties, and to be backed up by the 'stiffening member, means to support the Wrapper in an unwrapped condition from a Wall to display said ties, said Wrapper adapted to be rolled into a container of desired diameter for a number of collars leaving tubular end extensions on each end thereof, devices to fasten the ends of the Wrapper in overlapping relation, said de- Vices being arranged to permit adjustment of the diameter of the container as desired, together' with means to contract and hold the ends of said tubular extensions.
