Description
J1me 1930- F-. B. A. KIRSTEN SOFT COLLAR SUPPORT Filed July 25, 1927 Patented June 17, 1930 UNITED STATES.
FREDERICK IB. A. KIRSTEN, 0F MASON CITY, IOWA SOFT-COLLAR SUPPORT Application filed July 25,
This invention relates to improvements in wearing apparel and has for its object to provide a soft collar having means whereby the collar will be held in upright position.
A further object of the invention is to provide in a soft collar, means for preventing the collapse thereof through wilting or other causes.
A still further object of the invention is to provide in a soft collar a movable, semirigid supporting band, for holding the collar against collapse and means for holding the band extended said means being adapted to hold a tie form.
With the above and such other objects in view as may hereinafter more fully appear I have invented the device shown in the accompanying illustration, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of my improved collar;
Figure 2 is a back view of the collar shown unfolded and extended;
Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a detail perspective view of a stiffener member removed from the collar;
Figure 5 is a section on line 5+5 of Figure 2;
Figure 6 is a side elevational view of a collar, embracing my invention.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the following specification and in the several views in the drawings in which 6 indicates a soft collar having an outer fold 7, and an inner fold 8 in which latter fold is provided two longitudinal pockets 9 and 10 slightly spaced apart at the central rear portion 11 of the collar and having opposing openings 12 and 13' for said pockets. Removably seated in said pockets and extending substantially throughout the entire length of the fold 7 is a stifiener member 13, formed preferably of celluloid or some other similar semi-rigid strip which is provided throughout its length with perforations 1 1 to permit the passage of air through the strip in order that perspiration on the collar may be caused to quickly evaporate. The band 18 is removable for laundering purposes.
1927. Serial No. 208,254.
The member 13 is provided with buttons- 15 and 15 adjacent its ends .16 and 17 which are adapted to project through button holes 18 and 19 formed in the walls 20 and 21 of the pockets 9 and 10 adjacent their outer ends, said buttons being adapted to hold the member 13 extended and prevent undue coiling thereof said buttons being also adapted to engage the eyes 22 and 23 of the tie form 2 1,'upon which a tie (not shown) may be formed. The members 9 and 10 carry loops 25 and 26, adjacent said button holes 18 and 19, said loops being adapted to loop over the buttons 15 and 15 after the tie form 2&, has been buttoned thereon, so as to prevent accidental relative displacement of said members. It is obvious from the above description that a collar made according to my invention will be held in an upright position and be prevented from collapsing,
through moisture of perspiration, or the inability of the flexible material from which it is formed to stand up.
Having described my invention that which I claim to be new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:
1. In combination with a collar having a neck band fold provided with longitudinal pockets intermediate the ends thereof, a stiffener adapted to be seatedsubstantially en-. tirely within said pockets, said stifiener haV- ing buttons thereon adapted to project through button holes in said pocket members whereby the stiffener will be held against curling.
2. The combination set forth in claim 1, and a link tie form for connecting said buttons.
3. The combination set forth in claim 1, and a tie form for connecting said buttons, saipl tie form having button holes at each en 4. The combination set forth in claim 1, and a link for connecting said buttons, said link having button holes at each end, through which said buttons are adapted to project, and loops attached to said pocket members to overlie said link and engage the outer end of said buttons to prevent displacement of said link from said buttons, ,1
5. In a turned down collar an inner fold having pockets formed between the inner and outer layers of said fold and substantial- 1y throughout, the length of said fold, a stiffener having buttons fixed adjacent its ends adapted to be seated in said pockets, said inner layers having independent-button holes through which said buttons *are adapted to project and the outer foldadapted to overlie said buttons.
6. The combinationset'forth in 'clain1'5, and means for connecting said buttons around the neck of the wearer whereby said stiffener Will be maintained in: sition to stifien said collar.
