Description
JOHN WIGHTMAN..
Y impro-vement in .Child-renslCalrriages l Patented June 13, 187i.
HIIIUI my@ um! UNITED STATES JOHN B. WIGHTMAN, OF BROOKLYIQ NEW YORK.
IMPRVEMENT IN CHI'LDRENS CARRlAGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 115,920, dated .I une 13, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I; JOHN B. WIGHTMAN, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Ilnproved Perambulator; and I do hereby decla-re that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being hadto the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The object of this invention is to construct the body of a childs carriage or perambulator in such manner as will enable said body to be reversed, and thus avoid exposing the child to the sun or rain.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l represents a side view of my invention partly in section, and Fig. 2 a plan view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
A represents the body of a childs carriage of any desirable shape or size; B, the pivot; C, the bolt; D, the bolt-rod; E, the pushhandles; e c, pivot-pins; and F, the frame.
It is found, in childrens carriages, that much inconvenience attimes arises from being' obliged to push a carriage in such direction as will bring the sun land rain into the childs face. To obviate this inconvenience I pivot ,the body A of the carriage to the lower portion of the push-handles E by the pivot B, so that when desirable the position ot' the body may be reversed from back to front, and vice versa., as shown in Fig. l.
In order to facilitate'the turning of the body I secure the push-handles to the frame F by pivot-pins e e, so that by lifting the handles E the body A is raised clear ot' the wheels and may be turned without difliculty. After the body is turned it is held in position by the bolt @which is operated by means of the boltrod D. See Fig. 2.) The construction of the carriage and its several parts may be accomplished in any desired manner.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Pivotin g the body to a childs carriage or perambulator in such a manner as will admit of its position being reversed, as and for the purposes specified.
J OHN B. WIGBTMAN.
