Description

GEORGE W. SMITH.
improvement io Doors Jfor Stoves.
NO. 15,902. Patented5une13,871.
GEORGE W. SMITH, OF NEVVIYORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN DQORS FR STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 115,902, dated June 13, 18H.
1, GEORGE IV. SMITH, of the city and county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Door or Sh elf- Brace, of which the following is a specilication.
The nature of this invention relates to a door or sh elf-brace in which there is no elbowjoint to break the continuous straight line of the brace in whatever angle the door or shelf may be standing, from a horizontal to a perpendicular position, the brace being niade in two parts, one sliding into the other like a telescopetube.
In the drawing, Figure lis a perspective view of the door or. shelf in a horizontal position, with the brace attached and supporting the same. Fig'. 2 is a front elevation, showin g the door or shelf thrown up, and the position of the brace.
A, Figs. l and 2, represents a plate, which may be of niet-al, and have an opening in it suitable for an oven-door. B represents a door or shelf, (if a door it may be made of metal, if a sheltl it may be of wood or metal,) with or without a frame, b, secured to the edge to strengthen and help support it. The said door or shelf is hinged at the two corners c c. D
D represent braces, which consist of a tubular piece, d, pivoted or hinged at d to the frame b of the door, or at any part of the door, and a small rod, e, which plays or slides within the tube d., and is pivoted or hinged to the plate A. The tube and rod are of suftb cient length, so that when the brace is extended it will not draw clear out or cramp when opened. The door B is supplied with a suitable latch, g, to keep it closed. The brace is furnished with a small pin, h, by which the brace maybe secured, to hold the door partly open, by inserting the pin in a hole in the brace, provided for that purpose.
This makes a very simple and efficient adjustable brace for oven-doors, and, when let down, the doors make a very convenient shelf in front ofthe oven opening. The brace is also equally applicable for shelves, which may be thrown up out of the way when desired.
I claim as my invention- The brace D, constructed of the tube d an d rod c, in combination with the door or shelf B and plate A, as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
