ANDREW J'. MILLS, OF WEIR, MISSISSIPPI.
TAPER EXTRACT-HOLDING CUP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Uct. 19, 1915.
Application filed December 17, 1912. Serial No. 737,344.
ing cups and relates more particularly to.
paper cups of this nature especially adapted for holding flavoring extracts.
The primary object of the invention resides in the provision of a drinking cup which may be formed from a single piece of paper, which is sealed so as to retain therein a flavoring extract, and which is pro vided with suitable perforations whereby a portion of the paper may be removed to open the cup.
The invention also aims to generally improve cups of this nature to render them more useful and commercially desirable.
With these and other objects in View as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my in vention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure -1 is a side elevation of my improved cup, Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same, showing the cup open and ready for use, Figs. 3 and 4c are longitudinal and transverse sectional views, respectively, and, Fig. 5 is a side elevation, showing a portion of thecup partly removed to illustrate the manner of opening the same.
Referring in detail to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates, generally, a drinking cup formed from a single sheet of paper and having the side walls 2 and 3. The side wall 3 carries a flap 4, which is folded over and sealed to. the wall 2, said side wall 3 also carries a bottom .fiap 5, which is sealed to the wall 2 and flap 4, thus closing the bottom of the cup. The top edges of the cup are also sealed together and the side walls, 2 and 3 are provided adjacent said top edges, with the perforations 6. To open the cup in order that it may be filled, the portions 7 and 8 of the side walls 2 and 3, respectively, are removed, this being easily accomplished because of the perforations 6.
Having formed the drinking cup as before stated, and before closing the same entirely, I place therein a suitable flavoring extract, preferably in a powdered form, such as will not readily leak out through the seams of the cup or the perforations 6. After the extract has been placed within the cup, the same is completely sealed and is then ready for marketing. It is to be understood that extracts of any flavor may be placed within the cups and since they are easily soluble in water, will produce a pleasant drink without trouble or expense.
It will be seen that my improved extractholding cup may be cheaply manufactured and will prove to be readily salable.
As the side walls 2 and 3 are sealed together at a point adjacent the rows of perforations 6, the inner faces of the side walls adjacent the rows of perforations are held in intimate contact, preventing the-contents of the cup from escaping through the perforations and preventing dust and other foreigumatter entering the cup through the perforations.
It is to be understood that while I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, 1 do not wish to be limited to this exact construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, but may make such changes as will fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is I A cup of the character set forth comprising side walls having alined rows of perforations near their upper ends and having their side and bottom edges connected together, the upper portions of the side walls being sealed together at a point adjacent the rows of perforations to close the upper end of the cup and to hold the inner faces of the side walls adjacent the rows of perforations in intimate contact so as to prevent the contents of the cup escaping through the perforations and so as to prevent dust and In testimony whereof I afiix my signature other foreign matter entering the cup in presence of two Witnesses.
through the perforations, the perforations ANDY J. MILLS. permitting the connected upper portions of Witnesses: 5 the side Walls to be removed when it is de- G. S. COBB,
sired to use the cup. J. B. PICKLE.
