@uvmtur:
JAMES P. MAOHEN, OF OENTREVILLE, VIRGINIAL IMPROVEMENT IN BROADCAST FERTILIZER-DISTRIBUTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 115,750, dated June 6, 1871.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES P. MACHEN, or Oentreville, in the county of Fairfax and State of Virginia, have inventeda new and Improved Broadcast Fertilizer- Distributer; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing makin g'a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a transverse sectional elevation, and Fig. 2 a longitudinal horizontal section.
This invention consists in a series of scrapers, which rest on the upper part of the distributingcylinder of a broadcast sewer, and are hinged to a bar at the side of the same, which scrapers clean the surface of the cylinder as the latter revolves, while, at the same time, they present but a very trifling obstacle to its rotation;
Referring to the drawing, a is the receiver of a broadcast sewer; I), the distributing-cylinder, mounted lengthwise of the receiver in the usual manner, and having, in this instance, aspirally-fluted periphery, instead of which it may have spiral flanges, if preferred. 0 is a rod, placed parallel with the distributer, and by the side of the same, at a suitable distance from it. d are metallic scrapers, hinged at one out seriously resisting the rotation of the distributer by their Weight.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with the spirally-grooved roller, the hinged scrapers cl (1, having inclined or oblique front edges to operate upon said roller, substantially as herein described, for the purpose specified.
JAMES P. MACHEN.
