V Specification of Letters Patent.
I Application filed February 13, 1915. Serial No. 7,948.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, Eownnn L. ANDER- soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented'a new in Combined MatclrCases and Cigar-Cutters, of which and useful Improvement the following is a specification. o
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in combined match cases and cigar cutters, and the primaryob-' ject thereof is to providea case which removably retains a package of matches and which also movably supportsa cigar cutter so that upon opening of thecase the cutter may be moved to a position to enable cutting of the cigar, and then returnedto a position,
within the case.
A further object of the invention is to provide improved means for retaining the match package so that upon exhaust of the matches a new or fresh package may be inserted in the case; to provide an improved form of cutter and manner of mounting same movably within the case, and to otherwise generally provide a neat, simple, compact and inexpensive case of the character indicated.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of the case closed. Fig. 2 is a plan' view of the cascopen. Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal section viewof Fig; 2. Fig. ,4 is a section on the line 4- 6% of Fig. 2, and Fig. 5is a detail perspective View of the cutter blade. a I
The case is formed of two parts 1 and 2,
the latter having fingers 3 which extend inwardly toward each other and which engage a package of paper or wood matches M, the
package being insertible beneath the fingers and withdrawable from therebeneath for purpose of renewal .or replacement.
The cigar cutter comprises a hollow casing at formed with theusual cigar tip receiving opening 5, and has on its interior a pair of shoulders 6 adapted to engage fingers or projections 7 formed on the freeends of the flexible or compressible spring legsS of the cutter blade 9. By this structure the cutter blade can be completely finished and part.

expand and by engagement of the shoulders with the projections'l'of the cutter blade" legs, the. outward movement of the cutter blade will be limitedas is obvious.
The cutter is hinged within the part 1 by I means of a connection comprisinga leaf spring 10 having right angular ends 11 to which the housing 4 is pivoted by means of pins 13. The leaf spring is corrugated so as to provide resilient abutments let that on gage the hinged end of the cutter housing to thereby hold the cutter housing in both open'and closed positions 2'. 6., the position shown in Fig. 3, and that shown in Figs. 2.
and 4. The leaf spring has an arm 15 which is rigidly connected to the part 1, so as to movably support the spring part that has the corrugations for movement toward and ably engage and retain a package of matches therein, a cigar cutter hinged ,to the other part, and spring means to'engage the cutter to holdsame against said other part or in I position out of engagement with said other 2. A case composed of two hinged parts, a
leaf spring having corrugations and right angular ends movably connectedto one of the parts, and a cigar cutter plvoted to said spring ends and engaged with said corru- In testimonywhereof I have signed my name to this specification 1n the presence of two subscribingwitnesses. V EDWARD L. ANDERSON.
