Description

A. R. sco n lmprovement'i'n Locking Devices for'Dog-Collars.
Patented June 6,1871.
[72 rem/5? 1/ x Mam/m- Man's] AGUSTUS n. soorr, on ALBANY, NEW roan.
IMPROVEMENT IN LQCKING DEVICES FOR DOG-COLLARSQ Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 115,647, dated J one 6, 1871.
I, AGUSTUS B. Soo'r'r, of Albany, in the county of Albany and State of New York, haveinvented a certain Improvement in Looks for Dog-Collars and the like.
My invention relates to a screw-lock for dogcollars, 850., not forming part of the collar, but
detached, and so arranged as to form a lock for common brass and other metal strap or similar collars.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a perpendicular section of a detachable lock. Fig. 2is a perspective side elevation of a detachable lock. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a collar locked with this look.
At a is shown the frame of the lock, having an upright hollow stem through which the bolt 2; works. When the bolt bis screwed down it crosses the lateral opening or throat of the look, into whichthe ends of the collar, already pierced with holes for the passage of the bolt, have been introduced. The key 0 is still turned, and the bolt screwed down till passing through the opening at the bottom or'inner side of the frame, when the collar ends are securely held and locked.
Screw-locks are generally-attached to one end of the collar, forming partand piece of the same; cannot be removed or replaced when out of order, and must be thrown away with the collar when the collar becomes useless.
By piercing the ends of an ordinary strap, metal, or other similar collar in the manner shown in the drawing, they may be fastened by means of this look, provided the ends are narrow and thin enough to slip into the throat of the lock.
I do not claim a screw-lock forming part of one end of the collar, and fastening by a screwbolt passing through one end of the collar; but a screw-lock detached and separate, into the throat of which the two ends of the collar are introduced and locked by the screw-bolt passing through two eyelets or holes in the collar ends.
Claim.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The detached screw-lock for metal, strap, or other similar dog-collars, the same being constructed substantially as hereinbefore shown and described.
