.ANNA S. TAYLOR, 0F NEW YORK, N. Y.
@wams-STICK.
Application filed February 16, 1915.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, ANNA S. TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Clothes-Stick, of which the following is a i'ull, clear, and exact description.
rIhe invention relates to laundry appliances, and its object is to provide a new and improved clothes stick more especially designed for safely handling clothes especially lace and other delicate garments, when placing the same into a wash boiler or tub or removing the same therefrom. and to allow of conveniently supplying the wash water with a washing compound such as bluing, shaved soap, washing soda, washing powder or the like.
In order to accomplish the desired result, use is made of a perforate egg or bulb-shaped receptacle held on the end of a stick and provided with a separable section to allow of filling the receptacle with a. washing compound, the latter dissolving on placing the receptacle into the wash water, the latter passing through the perforations in the receptacle into the interior thereof to dissolve the compound contained therein.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which the ligure is a sectional side elevation of the clothes stick.
One end of the stick A is provided with a screw thread A screwing into the threaded neck B of a receptacle B, preferably made egg or bulb shape and provided with perforations B2, as plainly indicated in the drawing. The receptacle B is provided at the outer1 end with a screw cap B3 which when removed permits of conveniently filling the receptacle B with a washing compound C such as bluing, shaved soap, washing soda, washing powder or the like. After the receptacle is filled the cap B3 is again screwed in position to close the receptacle. The cap B3 iits snugly onto the mouth of the receptacle B so that the outer surface of the receptacle and its cap do not pre- Specication of Letters Patent.

sent any projections whatever to prevent lace or other delicate garments from being injured when using the stick in placing the garments or clothes into a wash boiler or tub or removing the same therefrom, or when stirring the clothes around in the boiler or tub. It will be noticed that the user of the clothes stick can lill the same with a washing compound and then submerge the receptacle in the wash water to allow the latter to pass through the perforations into the interior of the receptacle to dissolve the washing compound and to allow the solution to pass into the boiler or tub.
It will be noticed that by the use of the device a desired pounding action can be given to the clothes as the wash water can readily surge through the receptacle B on moving it up and down in the boiler or tub.
If' desired, the cap B3 can be omitted and the receptacle made with an outer surface of unbroken continuity except the perforations B2, it being understood that in this case the receptacle is filled with the washing compound through the neck B at the time the latter is unscrewed from the threaded end A of the stick A.
In practice. two or more receptacles B are furnished with a single stick to permit use of the several receptacles for containing this compound, thus using such receptacle for storing the compound. Vhen it is desired to use the same. the operator then screws one oi the receptacles in position on the stick A.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent: y
1. A clothes stick, comprising a stick having a threaded end and a perforate egg or bulb-shaped receptacle having a threaded neck screwing on the threaded end of the stick and adapted to be filled with a washing compound, the said receptacle having a smooth surface throughout its entire extent to prevent iniury to delicate fabrics when using the clothes stick.
2. A clothes stick, comprising a stick having a threaded end, and a perforate egg or bulb-shaped receptacle provided with a threaded neck adapted to screw on the said threaded end of the stick, the said receptacle name to this specification in the presence of being provided With a sefrewcap to1 permit tivo subscribing Witnesses. of opening the receptacle or lling tie same with a Washing compound to be dissolved in ANNA S' TAYLOR" 5 thewash Water, the said receptacle having a Witnesses:
smooth surface throughout its entire extent. THEO. Gr. HosTER,
In testimony whereof I have signed my PHILIP D. RoLLi-IAUS.
Vopies of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents` Washington, D. C.
