STANLEY L. GEDNEY, OF MAPLEWOOD, NEW JERSEY.
NECKTIE-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 28 1915.
Application filed November 2, 1910. Serial No. 590,378.
' To all whom it may concern.
Be 1t Known that I, STANLEY L. GEDNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Maplewood, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie- Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to necktie .holders. The object isto provide a necktie retainer or clip of simple and durable construction and one which may be easily applied and disposed to firmly hold depending portions of a necktie securely in place on the shirt bosom.
With the above and other objects in view a the present invention consists in the form and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim,1it bein stood that changes may be made int e form, proportion, size and minor details without departing from the'spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a view illustrating my improved clip applied to and holding a necktie to a shirt bosom. Fig. 2 is -a detailed plan view of the clip. Fig. 3 is a side elevation.
Referrin now more particularly to the accompanying drawings the reference character 1 indicates a bosom front and 2 a scarf or necktie.
Myimproved holder embodies a clip comprising outer and inner clasping members A and B respectively, the member A including comparatively elongated spaced parallel members 3 curved upwardly at one end as at 4, with the curved portions terminating in a bight 5. The opposite ends of the-parallel members 3 being directed upwardly at 6 and then forwardly to provide the clasping member B with comparatively shortparallel members 7 disposed in alinement with the members 3 of the-clasp A.
The parallel members 7 are directed downwardly at their inner ends as at 8 and then diverge outwardly as at 9 and then forwardly to provide the clasp B at its free end 4 with a second set of spaced parallel mem-.
bers 10, the extremitiesof the members 10 being directed upwardly as at 11; and termiunder- I nating in a bight 12 which lies across the opposite parallel members 3.
In the use of my improved tie holder the clasp B engages beneath one edge of the bosom. front 1 while the clasp A engages over the tie, whereby the-tie is firmly held in place.
It will be understood that the holder is composed preferably of spring material and ber, the inner clasp member being greater in width at its free end than the outer clasp member, and having its sides spaced outwardly for a greater part of their length, from the opposite sides of the outer clasp member, so that the outer clasp member and the inner clasp member clamp thematerial at four spaced points, thereby holding the material of a tie and shirt yieldingflly between the two members at four di erent points, the free ends of both of the clasp members bein curved upwardly, the up wardl'y curve end of the inner member terminating short of the upwardly curved end of the outer member, thereby forming a passagelto permit of the ready insertion of the shirt and tiefbetween the clasp mem- 1 bers, the said upwardly curved portion of the outer member being designed for engagementwith the material of the tie and shirt beyond the end of the inner clasp member, thereby facilitating the forcing of 7 the material inwardly between the clasping members. v I
In testimon whereof I aflix my signature in presence 0 two witnesses.
STANLEY L. GEDNEY.. Witnesses:
