COMBINATION STATIONERY DEVICE.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, OSCAR STANKEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at East St. Louis, in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Stationery Devices, of which the following is a specification.

My present invention relates to an improved stationery device and more particularly to pen extracting means; the main object of the invention being to provide an improved device of this character that is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly eiiicient in operation and one which may be manufactured at a comparatively low cost.

Various other objects and advantages will become apparent during the continuance of the following description.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.

Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates a cylindrical casing having a closed base portion 2 and provided at its top with a removable closure 3. A bracket 1 is riveted or otherwise secured to the easing 1 exteriorly thereof and is adapted to receive a suitable eraser material 5. The closure 3 has a depending flange 6 which is adapted toengage the inner wall of the easing to hold the closure in position thereon, and is provided in its upper wall with an opening 7 An ordinary conical pencil sharpener 8 is secured to the under wall of the top of the closure, in communication with the opening 7 so that a pencil may be inserted through the said opening and be sharpened.

An arcuately-shaped slot 9 is provided in the casing 1. the other is disposed beneath the same. A sleeve 12 is disposed about the arms 10 and 11 and in the upper wall the roof is provided with a screw threaded opening 13. A rod 14 extends through an opening in the closure 3 and is provided with screw threads, at its lower end for engagement with the threaded opening 13 of the member 12.

From the construction above set forth, it will be seen that when a pen point is inserted through the slot 9 and the rod 1 1 is turned, the arms 10 and 11 will be drawn together and consequently clamp the pen point therebetween, a slight pull on the penholder serving todisengage the point therefrom. The rod 14 is provided at its upper end with a head 15 having a slot 16 formed in one side thereof. This slot is adapted to receive paper fasteners in order to hold the same when they are desired to be opened.

In order to adapt the entire device for use as a paper weight, the bottom of the casing is provided with a suitable amount of lead or other material 17, this weight not only serving to increase the weight of the device but also serving to hold the same in an upright position.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it is thought that the construction and operation of the device will be clearly understood and while I have herein shown and described one specific form of my invention I do not wish to be limited thereto except for such limitations as the claims may import.

What is claimed is 1. A device of the character described comprising a casing, a closure for said casing, said casing provided with a slot intermediate its upper and lower ends, a pair of resilient arms fixed to the inner wall of said casing in proximity to said slot, a sleeve arranged about said arms, a rod having one end adjustably mounted in said sleeve, the lower end of said rod engaging the upper of said resilient arms, said rod extending upwardly through said closure, and a handle formed at the upper end of said rod for operating the same substantially as described.
