' IMPROVEMENT IN BUNG-BORERS.
To all whom it may concern? Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. IVEs, of- New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Immovement in Bun g-Borer and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specification, and represents, in

This invention relates to an improvement in bung-borers the object being to construct a semicircular borer so that the depth of cut may be governed, and thus enable the operator to bore a round hole which is difficult to ameter from the head downward, terminating in a gimlet-point, and the cutting-edge formed by chamfering one point of the pod from the outside in and forward.
A is the eyefor the handle, formed on the head B, to which the pod O is attached or made a part, the said pod diminishing in diameter from the head downward, and provided at the smaller end with a gimlet-point, a. One edge, 11,1 chamfer from the outside in, as in Fig. 2, thus making the edge upon the inside; consequently in boring the chip out can be no more than the thickness of the metal, and the outer surface of the pod bears upon the surface cut so that the hole bored will be perfectly round; this manner of chamfering operating practically like the'cap or guard upon a joiners plane, the ginilet-point serving to draw the pod as fast as it cuts.
I claim as my invention- 1 The herein-described bung-borer, consisting of the pod 0 provided with a suitable handle, having the cutting-edge 01 formed by chamfering from the outside in, and constructed with a gimlet-point, a, as herein set forth.
