Description
VJ.-J. KRAU s,
Boring 8C Reamng' Tool PATENTE JUL 18 1871 PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH J. KRUS, OF MENASIIA, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN WOOD-BORING TOOLS.
Speciiication forming part of Letters Patent No. 117,082, dated July 18, 1871.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH J. KRAUs, of Menasha, in the county of Winnebago and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in VVood-Boring and eaming-Tool; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and being a part of this specication, in Which- Figure 1 is an elevation of the convex, and Fig. 2 a similar View of the concave side of my reamer.
Like letters indicate like parts in each iigiue.
The nature of this invention relates to an improvement in tapered boring and reamin g-augers or bits; and it consists in providing such reamers with a feed-screw near the cutting-lips or y points, the tool where the threads are cut being swaged up to a greater'diameter than if the taper were carried down to the lips; also, in providing it with an internal thread eut in a reverse direction to the external one, for the purpose of feeding or forcing up the chips, instead of letting' them fall below the lumber, board, or stave Which is being reained.
In the drawing, A represents the body of an ordinary concavo-convex tapered Wood-reamer, the left-hand edge being sharpened so as to cut when the tool is turned to the right. The point of the tool is coned, and provided with a cutting-lip, a. The extremity ofthe main part of the tool is upset and hasV cut on the enlarged part a right-hand screw, as shown at b, while the interior or concave side of that portion has a lefthand screw-thread cut thereon, it being also upset or made thicker than the part above it, as shown at c, Fig. 2. The eutting-lip-at the point enables the tool to penetrate the Wood, while the thread b acts as a feed-screw to draw it in. At the same time the left-hand screw c forces the chips upward and thus clears the opening. The hole is roamed by the cutting-edge of the reamer to any desired diameter in the usual manner.
Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is#
The concave-convex reamer A, provided with the cutting-lip a, external screw-thread I), and intern al screw-thread c, as and for the purpose set forth.
JOSEPH J. KRAUS.
